Colin Farrell is giving fans a rare glimpse into his family life, sharing a touching moment with his eldest son, James, in the trailer for his documentary coming out in late 2026.
The 50-year-old actor, who is usually fiercely private about his children, appears alongside James, 23, in “The Slightest Touch,” a new film that follows his journey to complete the Dublin Marathon with longtime friend and disability rights advocate Emma Fogarty.
In one particularly sweet scene, Farrell embraces his son at home, offering viewers an intimate look at their relationship.
“I’ve never had a camera crew come near my home,” the “Penguin” star said in the trailer, before jokingly adding, “He gets away with nothing!”
The documentary, which is set to premiere on Nov. 25, 2026, follows Farrell and Fogarty as they prepare for and take on the marathon, bringing attention to disability awareness and inclusion along the way.
James, whom Farrell shares with his former girlfriend, model Kim Bordenave, was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a rare neurogenetic disorder that affects development, movement and speech.
The actor has spoken candidly about his son’s condition over the years, previously describing James as a gift and saying he is exactly the way he should be.
In a 2008 interview, Farrell spoke about the joy his son had brought into his life, making it clear that he never viewed James as anything less than perfect.
“He’s nothing but a gift. He’s, as far as I’m concerned, exactly the way he should be. I look around and I see people who move perfectly, who walk with grace, who speak with greatdiction and clarity and a great use of the English language and we’reall miserable f–kers — including me, at times!” he said proudly.
More recently, the actor opened up about the challenges families face when children with intellectual disabilities reach adulthood.

In 2024, Farrell launched the Colin Farrell Foundation in honor of James, with the aim of supporting adults with intellectual disabilities through advocacy, education and innovative programs.
The decision was inspired in part by the lack of support available once children with disabilities turn 21 and age out of many educational and assistance programs.
“Once your child turns 21, they’re kind of on their own,” Farrell told PEOPLE at the time. “All the safeguards that are put in place, special ed classes, that all goes away, so you’re left with a young adult who should be an integrated part of our modern society and more often than not is left behind.”
The actor also explained that speaking publicly about James was not a decision he took lightly, particularly because his son could not tell him whether he was comfortable with the attention.
Nevertheless, Farrell hoped that sharing their story would help create a more inclusive world for people like James.
“I want the world to be kind to James. I want the world to treat him with kindness and respect,” he said.
Farrell is also dad to 17-year-old son Henry, whom he shares with his former partner, actress Alicja Bachleda-Curuś.
While the actor has occasionally brought Henry along to high-profile events, including the 2025 Emmy Awards, he has generally kept both boys out of the spotlight.
“The Slightest Touch” documentary marks another meaningful step in Farrell’s efforts to raise awareness, with his appearance alongside James offering a heartfelt reminder of the importance of acceptance, understanding and unconditional love.
