Coco Austin Stirs Up Parenting Debate After Giving 6-Year-Old Daughter Bath In Kitchen Sink

Rapper Ice-T and his wife Coco Austin, otherwise known as Nicole Natalie Marrow, are both famous in their respective careers – Ice-T as a rapper and actor, and Austin for her career as a model and reality TV star. But together, the couple is just as famous for their personal life. Married since 2002, they even had a popular reality TV show called “Ice Loves Coco,” which aired from 2011 to 2013, as well as a short-lived talk show.

Although they were married for over a decade without children, in 2015, the couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Chanel Nicole, now 7 years old. With famous parents like hers, it's no surprise that Chanel has also been in the spotlight alongside them.

In fact, since the couple is known for sharing a lot of their lives with the public, especially on social media, they've already given their daughter a head start by creating her own Instagram account on which they share photos of Chanel, both alone and with her family. Giving influencers a run for their money, Chanel already has more than 447,000 followers!

Since Chanel’s birth, the couple’s parenting style has earned them a fair bit of criticism. This started when Austin revealed that she still breastfed her daughter on occasion, despite being 5 at the time. Austin was also slammed after giving her daughter fake nails to wear for a school photo. Time and again, Ice-T has defended his wife publicly. Now, Austin is getting heat once again after posting a video showing her bathing her daughter using a rather unconventional method.

On Sept. 22, 2022, Coco posted a lengthy video to her Instagram account showing herself and Chanel getting ready to attend a Patricia Field fashion show. The caption read, “Chanel’s 1st fashion show as a Prospector … This was from an hour before getting ready…”

In the video, Chanel was seen in what appeared to be the kitchen sink taking a bath as she played with a tablet. “The sink is easiest when you have to be fast,” read a caption over the clip. “We only had an hour to get ready and figure out what to wear,” the next caption read over a shot of Coco curling her bright pink hair. The camera then moved to Chanel, who was dressed like a schoolgirl in a long-sleeve black top and pink tartan skirt, as well as a monogrammed “Chanel” necklace, putting on Mary Janes.

Coco, meanwhile, opted for colorful stiletto heels, a Chanel purse, colorful jewelry and a low-cut cobalt blue skin-tight dress. “I’m always colorful, inside and out!” she wrote in the caption. In the next shot at the event, Coco and Fields pose for the camera as Chanel stands demurely in front of them, holding a drink. She was later seen taking videos from the sidelines of the catwalk as models walked down the room and posing with her mother for the camera.

Chanel appeared to be completely at ease in front of the camera, which may be due in part to the fact that she has had a lot of practice. Her Instagram is filled with adorable solo shots of herself modeling pretty dresses to photos with her mom, often in matching – and colorful – clothes.

However, it wasn’t the sweet mom-daughter tie that viewers picked up on. Instead, many criticized Coco for her sink bathing “hack.”

Coco garnered some praise online for her ingenuity. “Yep! If the sink big enough … I have a two-year-old and if he could fit in mine, that’s where he would be most of the time! And so I’m not bending over hurting my back lol,” one viewer commented. “Sink baths are the best,” read another comment.

However, some criticized Coco’s actions in long and detailed comments.

“I'm not jealous I'm just a mom looking at this at this as if she is still treating her little girl as a baby instead of as a grown up little young lady. She needs to be in the bathtub like all the other kids,” wrote one mother. “She's too old to be in the sink … that was really awkward to see,” another commented.

“The problem with all this is there is a place to wash your food clean your dishes and there's a place to wash your butt. … We as parents are supposed to help our kids grow in different areas and stages in their lives. ... So there is no excuse of why she shouldn't be in the bathtub or it's convenient to be in the sink that's a cop out for being a parent,” another incensed parent wrote.

Coco, meanwhile, took the harsh words in stride, tweeting a clap-back days later:

“Wow just Wow! Here we go again! Giving my lil girl a bath in the sink went Viral? SMH! People, you gotta know by now that I'm an unconventional mother. I do what works and is easier on me. Some may want to take some pointers rather than rag on me!”
