Cocker Spaniel Abandoned In Desert Finds New Joy In Life After 1 Pound Of Matted Fur Removed

It's often said that a dog is a man's best friend. Unfortunately, these best friends are deserted all too often by owners who fail to take care of them.

That was the situation a cocker spaniel named Dorothy found herself in a short time ago. The sweet dog was abandoned by her owner in a Palmdale desert. When she was found by the J.J. Woofin' Paws Rescue Agency, she was so matted and dirty that rescuers couldn't tell if she was a male or female.

The Agency wrote that, in spite of her condition, Dorothy still had a spunky spirit about her. Once the rescuers brought her home, she delightfully walked around, wagging her tail and lounging in her comfy crate.

The rescuers quickly realized that her condition was even worse than they originally thought. Her fur was so matted that her back legs were tied together, making it difficult for Dorothy to walk. She also had an issue with her eye and several wounds that needed to be cared for by a vet.

Dorothy's rescuers took her to a local vet to get cleaned up, where they had to sedate her in order to tackle her mangled fur. When all was said and done, the vet's office had removed over a pound of fur from sweet Dorothy! Dorothy was so thankful to the kind people that saved her. She's now living with her forever family in a loving home, free of matted fur.

Her rescuers believe Dorothy may have been left to die by a breeder that no longer wanted to care for her. This situation happens far too often, which makes the work of organizations like J.J. Woofin' Paws Rescue Agency even more important. Had Dorothy not been found when she was, the outcome of her story likely would not have been as happy.

Although Dorothy was able to be saved and find her forever family, many dogs in shelters are not as fortunate. Rescue organizations like J.J. Woofin' Paws Rescue Agency have made it their mission to save as many animals as possible while also educating communities on how to properly care for pets.

What do you think of Dorothy's story? Does it inspire you to adopt a shelter pet, or to volunteer for a rescue agency similar to the one that saved Dorothy? Be sure to pass this along to your loved ones so they can also hear her heartwarming tale.
