Coach Wakes Up Football Team On School Snow Day With Unusual Workout Plans.

When you’re in school, snow days are typically all about the joy of taking a whole day off to spend just being lazy. They are a rare treat that lets you turn off your alarm clock and sleep until lunchtime or, better yet, spend the entire day lounging in bed watching whatever Netflix show you’re currently binging. They are often days for treating yourself to indulging in things that your typical school day doesn’t allow.
However, sometimes snow days make for an incredible sense of community, with everyone experiencing the same hefty snow piles and roads that shouldn’t be driven.
When Wilmot Union High School students in Wisconsin heard that classes were canceled after a particularly heavy snow storm, they were elated. Many looked forward to the inevitable break that comes from a snow day.
However, one group of young men didn’t end up spending the day sledding, snowboarding, or sleeping in like their peers were likely doing.
On this particular snow day, the entire football team could be found serving their community.

Buttoned up in triple layers of jackets, snow pants and hefty winter boots, the football team came together to do a workout that will absolutely melt your heart (too bad it couldn’t melt the snow!).
Each member of the football team heard their phone ring shortly after hearing that a snow day was announced. On the other end was their coach, Brian Hopkins. He told them to get up, get dressed and grab a snow shovel.
A team with great respect for their coach, the players hopped out of bed and did what was requested, no questions asked.
The Union High School Panthers football team could be seen all across the community, banding together to make the downpour of heavy, wet snow a little more tolerable for their neighbors.
The teenagers took their snow shovels and worked the entire morning away clearing dozens of driveways in their community. It’s no secret that these high schoolers likely preferred to sleep in. Yet, at the end of the day they agreed that it was one of the best uses of their time during their unscheduled day off, not to mention a killer arm workout.
Brian told Fox 6, "Most high schoolers are sleeping in today… but these guys want to give back to their community.”
What do you think these high schoolers took away from spending the day building character and serving others, rather than simply hitting the snooze button? Their show of teamwork in giving back to their community is truly moving. We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
