Co-Pilots And Also Mother And Daughter Duo Inspire Their Passengers

In today’s world, many women are busy trying to change what we see as typical gender roles. Women are now becoming CEOs of major companies, doctors, engineers, and more. For years, many people may have assumed that the pilot of an airplane would be a man.

However, this isn’t always the case today. More and more women are taking the reins at the controls and flying planes on their own. This is exactly what happened on a cross country trip recently. A flight deck duo was not only made up of women- it was a mother and daughter pair.

A few months ago, a Delta flight was headed from Los Angeles to Atlanta. On the way, a passenger asked the flight attendant if her two young kids could take a quick trip to the flight deck according to a university release

When the small family came back to their seats, the children could not stop talking. That was because they met a mother and her very own daughter co-pilot duo in the cockpit. They could not believe how fascinating it was to see a family in the cockpit of a plane, flying thousands of miles above the ground.

The chancellor of the Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, Dr. John R. Watret, just happened to be on board the flight that day. He was sitting nearby and was able to hear how excited the kids were about the pair they met. “I thought that was amazing. I was in awe,” he said in a university release. “I asked if I could visit them, too.”

It was there that he was able to meet the mother-daughter duo. Captain Wendy was in the captain’s chair with First Officer Kelly Rexon by her side.

Watret later tweeted: "Just flew from LAX to ATL on Delta piloted by this mother-daughter flight crew. Great flight. Inspiring for you women." More than 51,000 people liked the tweet.

In a male-dominated job, it's awesome to see such inspiring figures. “The first officer had a great role model for becoming a pilot – her mother,” Watret said in the release. “It’s good for aviation and inspiring for all of us. Not only that, but Kelly’s sister is also a pilot. What an amazing family for sure!
