Before Fame

Clint Eastwood was born in 1930 to hard-working parents - his father was a migrant worker, his mother had a job in a factory. He has one younger sister.

Eastwood was never a stranger to hard work himself, as detailed here at The Famous People website. In high school and shortly after, he worked several jobs including working as a lifeguard, paper carrier, grocery clerk, forest firefighter, and golf caddy before his big break. In 1950, at twenty years old, he was recruited to be a swimming instructor for the United States Army. There he met actors David Jansen and Martin Miller who encouraged him to try it out himself.

After his time in the U.S. Army, Clint Eastwood spent some time on the west coast becoming interested in the film industry. Meeting actors, directors, and cameramen, he decided to pursue this line of work himself.

In 1955, Eastwood finally got roles in two movies, "Revenge of the Creature" and "Francis in the Navy." It didn't take very much time for film fans and directors to take note of him, and he got his big break just a few short years later by landing a role in a TV western called "Rawhide." By the end of his eight seasons on the show, he had grown a loyal base of fans and really made a name for himself as an actor.

Having made a name for himself and earning the respect of the film industry, he decided to start a production company of his own called Malpaso.

During this time, Clint Eastwood landed his role in the movie "Dirty Harry." This would be a turning point in his career, allowing fans to fall for his character's tough and often violent personality - traits that he would become known for on-screen for the rest of his career.
