Clint Eastwood is one of the most recognizable names in Hollywood. Whether you know him as the Man with No Name from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, police officer Harold Francis Callahan in Dirty Harry, or as the director of Mystic River and American Sniper, Eastwood is a legend in the entertainment industry.

Fans are especially excited now because the actor has returned to the silver screen for the first in six years. Eastwood’s last major acting role was the baseball drama Trouble with the Curve. Now, Eastwood is back in The Mule, where he plays antihero Earl Stone.

The film, which was also directed and produced by Eastwood, follows Stone as he begins working for a drug cartel after he faces severe financial problems. Stone assists the cartel in their efforts to smuggle drugs into the United States.

The film is based on the real-life exploits of Leo Sharp. Sharp gained great notoriety in 2014 when the article “The Sinaloa Cartel's 90-Year-Old Drug Mule” graced the pages of the New York Times. Sharp, a World War II veteran, was arrested in 2011 for helping organized crime smuggle drugs into the United States.

Much like his fictional counterpart, Sharp was also facing financial ruin when he began working with the drug cartels.

In addition to Eastwood, The Mule features an all-star cast that includes Bradley Cooper and Laurence Fishburne as two DEA agents trying to end Stone’s crime spree. A promotional trailer released for the film gives audiences a good idea of the story’s tone.

The preview opens with Stone examining bags of white powder in his trunk as he grows nervous of the large shipment of drugs he is carrying in his vehicle.

Stopped by police, Stone tries to charm his way out of trouble, but drug sniffing dogs soon decipher his illicit cargo. In a voiceover, audiences learn of Stone’s state of mind. Despite admitting to being a terrible father and husband, Stone declares that family is most important, saying that this haul will be his last.

The trailer has already been watched 14 million times since its debut. In the thousands of comments posted to the video’s social media page, viewers praise the drama and storyline of the film.
