Clever Waitress Calls Police On Alleged Child Abusers

An observant 21-year-old waitress recently saw signs of child abuse on a toddler at one of her tables and called the police.

Police are praising the young lady, Jordan Cooper, for keeping a watchful eye out on the female toddler, who came in with a man, a woman, and an adolescent girl as well as the toddler at an Olive Garden restaurant in Paducah, Kentucky.

Jordan said she felt a negative vibe about the family right as they walked in. When she went to wait on the family, she first walked over to the baby.

“The baby was sitting in a highchair with a blanket over her head. When the blanket came off, her face had a lot of black-and-blue bruises,” Cooper told Yahoo Lifestyle.

Cooper told the same source that she also noticed the man in the group shoving breadsticks in the child’s mouth and telling her: "You better eat this!"

Jordan Cooper then enlisted her coworkers to help her watch the group. She instructed a fellow waitress to photograph the family in secret with the help of another table of customers.

The waitress noticed the man repeatedly leaving the table to go to the restroom carrying the baby but he never took a diaper bag with him. During his third visit to the restroom, Cooper asked the man what he was doing. The man then hurried back to the table and asked for the bill.

Cooper, who herself is eight months pregnant, followed the group to their car and took down their license plate number. She also noticed that the toddler was not strapped into the car seat.

The waitress then called the police and DCFS. But what helped authorities to catch the man and woman even faster was a 911 operator seeing Cooper’s picture on Facebook. Once captured, the couple was charged with aggravated assault and child abuse. The toddler was taken and treated at a local emergency room. Both children were placed in the state’s custody. Currently, both parents remain in custody, their bond set at $200,000 each.

Police praised Cooper’s efforts, as reported on Newsweek: "If she hadn’t noticed something and done all that, we wouldn’t have gotten the information."

It was actually a lucky coincidence that Jordan Cooper was even working that night. Her typical schedule has her off on Sundays. But this Sunday, Cooper was at work, and her swift efforts helped rescue a couple of children from abusive parents.

What do you think about the way Jordan Cooper handled this dangerous situation? Isn't it terrible to imagine how some parents abuse their children, with many never being caught? At the same time, isn't it comforting to know that courageous people like Jordan Cooper exist who are willing to step in and do something about it? Please be sure to tell your friends and family about this incident to make them aware of how common such a crime is.
