Hurricanes devastate the areas near landfall. Storm surges, flooding, and extremely high winds all destroy much of what they encounter.

Many people secure what they can, knowing that most things they leave behind as they evacuate will not survive the storm. Miraculously, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray survived Hurricane Laura with barely a scratch while the building around it almost disappeared.

Making landfall with winds of 150 mph, Hurricane Laura ranks as the strongest storm ever to make landfall in Louisiana. Forecasters warned of catastrophic storm surge and flooding in addition to high winds. Hurricanes also spawn tornadoes, which cause additional damage. People in western Louisiana did their best to safely stow their valuables before the storm hit.

Fortunately, the predicted storm surge failed to materialize. However, high winds, tornadoes, and flooding wreaked havoc on Lake Charles, Louisiana, the largest city near landfall. Some people lost entire homes. Businesses were destroyed. Flooding damaged other structures and goods. Some people will be without power for weeks.

As corvetteblogger.com reported, an auto repair shop did the best they could to prepare. The owner placed the 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on a lift to keep the flooding from reaching the car. However, the wind destroyed the ceiling over the car. The bay doors behind the car disappeared.

A large part of the wall in front of the car also ceased to exist. Given the roof's condition, the loss of the bay doors may have prevented flooding inside the shop.

After the storm, the car sat on the lift unharmed. Reed Timmer, an extreme storm chaser, released a video showing the devastation in Lake Charles. Brick buildings lay in ruins. Power poles fell across streets, dropping power lines to the ground. The auto repair shop all but disappeared. Despite this, the Stingray appeared unharmed, looking like it the storm left it with a fresh shine.

Corvetteblogger.com estimated the car’s value at between $40,000 and $70,000. This likely explains why it sat upon the rack while another car in the shop rested on the ground against the back wall. The odds of the Corvette Stingray escaping Hurricane Laura with no damage are incalculable. However, the video proves the car’s good fortune.
