Christopher Lloyd, much like his co-star Michael J. Fox, has become a pop culture icon for the character he portrayed in "Back To The Future." While he has taken on other remarkable roles in the past, nothing will ever come close to the one he did for the sci-fi trilogy where he played the character of Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown.

Born on Oct. 22, 1938, in Stamford, Connecticut, Lloyd was the youngest of seven children. He has been married five times. He and his first wife, Catherine Boyd, spent 12 years together before they went their separate ways. He then married his second wife, Kay Tornborg in 1974, but eventually, they parted ways after 13 years. They didn’t have any children together.

Not long after, he met his third wife whom he married a year after his split with Tornborg, but they separated only three years later. It marked his shortest marriage out of the five times he got married. In 1992, he tied the knot with Jane Walker Wood. They also spent 13 years together before they parted ways in 2005. They also didn’t have any children together.

He then met the love of his life, his wife Lisa Loiacono, whom he married more than a decade later in 2016. Lloyd told The Guardian in an interview in 2021 that Loiacono is his “last,” seemingly hinting that she is “the one.”

“Five is the last," he said. Loiacono then replied, "No 5 is sitting right here!"

But when did Lloyd’s passion for acting start?

After taking an interest in theater in high school, Lloyd took acting classes in New York when he was 19, some of which were under the tutelage of acclaimed acting coach Sandy Meisner. He credited Meisner with much of his success, as he told The New York Times in 1977:

“My work up to then had been very uneven. I would be good one night, dull the next. Meisner made me aware of how to be consistent in using the best that I have to offer,” he said. “But I guess nobody can teach you the knack, or whatever it is, that helps you come to life on stage,” he added.

He made his Broadway debut at the age of 21 and continued working in theater into the 1970s before he had his film debut in the acclaimed drama "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975). Working across both theater and film over the rest of the decade, Lloyd even turned to TV and appeared on the hit show "Taxi" from 1978 to 1983, for which he won two Emmy Awards.

But just a few years later, Lloyd would have one of the biggest roles of his life as Doc Brown in "Back to the Future." Instantly a hit, the movie became a worldwide phenomenon and catapulted Lloyd to fame.

He and Fox reunited for two more sequels, which were released in 1989 and 1990. The franchise was so popular it had a number of spin-offs, including an animated series, a video game, a stage musical and even a theme park ride at Universal Studios.

In October 2022, Lloyd had an emotional reunion with Fox at the "Back To The Future" panel at the New York Comic-Con.

"The chemistry was there from the first scene we had," Lloyd said, recalling what it was like working with Fox in the film. “It remained that way for three movies and it hasn't gone away, by the way,” he added.

Fox had the same to say about Lloyd whom he described as “genius.”

“The best part of this movie was working with Chris," Fox recalled, adding it was fun "because he's just genius."

It was an emotional moment not just for both actors, but for fans of the films they did together as well.

Even though he is now in his 80s, Lloyd has proven he's still got the moves. When he turned 84 in October 2022, he took to Instagram to show off his dance moves as seen in a video he posted to mark his birthday.

“Celebrate! Why not? It’s my birthday,” he wrote in the caption of his video.

Celebrities took the time to greet Lloyd, with the likes of actress Rachael Leigh Cook and singer Janelle Monáe wishing him a "Happy Birthday" in the comments.

“Happy Birthdayyyyyy!! AKA Happy Christopher Lloyd Day to all of us,” Cook said.

“Omg happy birthday!!! You’re a legend!!!” Monáe wrote.

Meanwhile, his co-star in "Taxi," Tony Danza, shared a photo of himself with Lloyd on Instagram to greet him on his special day. “Happy birthday, Chris! Love you!” Danza wrote in his post on Instagram.

With the adorable video of him dancing, Lloyd is leaving a legacy not just on the big screen but also on the dance floor!
