One of the various staples of the holiday season include colorful light decorations and songs that were crafted in the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year. Country music legend Alan Jackson is known for his many hit songs, but "Let It Be Christmas" is the one that gets played the most once the weather starts turning cooler and people start decorating their homes.

When the Sun goes down and Christmas gets near, many of us tend to enjoy taking a stroll or a slow drive through the neighborhood to look at holiday lighting and decorations; however, since we are living in the YouTube era, we have also become accustomed to searching for videos of impressive Christmas light displays. About 13 years ago, when "Let It Be Christmas" was just getting popular, a video of a home in Massachusetts was posted to YouTube, and it featured an incredible synchronicity of programmable lights dancing to the Alan Jackson tune.

An Expensive Electricity Bill After the New Year

The caption of the video in question explains that 40,000 lights were arranged to decorate the home, which is simply gorgeous. You can tell that the homeowners could not wait for nightfall to turn on the lights, and their neighbors probably felt the same. Even with the modern LED Christmas lights, which do not require as much electricity as their incandescent counterparts, the owners of this home probably faced a pretty high electricity bill come January.

People who really get into the Christmas spirit and go all out with the holiday decorations tend to be good at estimating what their electricity bills will be; in many cases, they save up in advance for this purpose, and then they spend the rest of the year watching their power usage, so in the end it is all good, and why not? It is Christmas after all.

How Do They Get Christmas Lights to Dance?

Programmable Christmas lights have been around for a couple of decades. If you are a tinkerer, you should look into an Arduino board connected to a computer running Linux so that the lights can be programmed.
