Christmas Card Reveals Archie's Sweet Name For His Father, Prince Harry

Year after year, members of the royal family never cease to amaze others with their stunning holiday cards. Their cards are something that fans and people from all over the world grow excited to see each holiday season. People can surely expect some glamorous, regal photographs from the royal family members. 

Prince William and Kate Middleton are especially known for their Christmas cards, as they typically vacation to beautiful and exotic places each summer and take pictures there to use as the picturesque background for their Christmas cards. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also shared a handful of stunning cards of their own over the years. In December 2021, they shared their fourth card as a couple and showed off just how sweet and adorable their growing family is.

Fans typically look at photographs of the royals as a treat, as it’s a nice way to get a peek into their busy and hectic lives. These pictures also help people get a sense of personality from the family and figure out what their home lives might be like. This was especially true for the Sussex family Christmas card from December 2021, which showed Harry and Meghan posing happily with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan held Lilibet high in the air, smiling adoringly at her daughter while Archie sat on Harry’s lap. Below their beautiful photograph was a sweet message that revealed the adorable name Archie has for his father — and also showed that the family was keeping up a cute royal tradition.

Ever since Harry and Meghan tied the knot in 2018, fans have adored seeing their romance flourish and their family continue to grow. The couple themselves are absolutely stunning, and their two children are adorable, making for some absolutely breathtaking family photos together. 

According to Town & Country, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated Archie’s first birthday in 2020 with a video of Megan reading her son one of his favorite stories. The couple later celebrated Archie turning 2 in May 2021 by uploading a photo of him on the website of their non-profit Archewell. Archie was seen happily holding a bouquet of balloons. More photos over the years have also been adored by people all over the world, including those of Archie’s Christening, Meghan announcing she was pregnant with Lilibet and several other amazing moments in between.

On Dec. 21, 2021, Harry and Meghan debuted their most recent holiday card, featuring their 2-year-old son Archie and their 6-month-old daughter Lilibet, according to PEOPLE. The picture was captured by Alex Lubomirski in summer 2021 at the family’s home in Montecito, California, just outside Santa Barbara.

The message on the holiday card read:

“This year, 2021, we welcomed our daughter, Lilibet, to the world. Archie made us a ‘Mama’ and a ‘Papa,’ and Lili made us a family. As we look forward to 2022, we have made donations on your behalf to several organizations that honor and protect families — from those being relocated from Afghanistan, to American families in need of paid parental leave.”

This was the fourth holiday card Meghan and Harry sent out as a couple after getting married in 2018, according to Express. In 2019, they spent Christmas with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, in Los Angeles, California. The following year, the pair spent their first Christmas as non-working royals at their home in Montecito.

In the most recent Christmas card, it was made clear that Archie calls Harry “papa,” a sweet tradition that Harry seems to have passed down to his son from his own father. According to Express, Prince Charles used to call Prince Philip “papa.” Following Philip’s passing in April 2021, Charles shared his love for his late father in a touching tribute.

He said:

“My dear papa was a very special person who I think, above all else, would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that have been said about him. And from that point of view we are, my family, deeply grateful for all that. It will sustain us in this particular loss and at this particularly sad time.”

It’s clear that Harry has grown to love being referred to as “papa” as well. Back in September 2021, Harry was seen carrying a laptop case with the words “Archie’s Papa” on it, according to PEOPLE. The Duke of Sussex had previously shared that “papa” was actually one of Archie’s first words.

“I got a photo of (Princess Diana) in his nursery, and it was one of the first words that he said – apart from ‘mama,’ ‘papa,’ it was then ‘grandma.’ Grandma Diana,” Harry said. “It’s the sweetest thing, but at the same time, it makes me really sad because she should be here.”
