When 6-year-old Wyoming resident Bridger Walker stepped in to protect his sister from a charging German shepherd earlier this month, he saved his little sibling’s life.

Thanks to a post on Instagram, Bridger’s bravery caught a few celebrities’ attention, including Captain America himself — 39-year-old actor Chris Evans. To reward the heroic boy, Evans sent Bridgers a personal message on social media, promising to send him an “authentic Captain America shield.”

Although Bridger suffered severe bite wounds along with around 90 stitches, his story has a happy ending. As Bridger’s aunt Nicole Noel Walker explains in a detailed Instagram post, the incident occurred on July 9th, 2020.

“On July 9th, my six year old nephew Bridger saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog,” Walker wrote on the social media platform alongside photos of Bridger and his sister. “After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe. He later said, ‘If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.’”

In order to honor Bridger’s unbelievable bravery, Walker made sure to tag actors from the Avenger’s franchise in her post, writing, “We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks.” And it didn’t take long for the Avengers to assemble.

With nearly 1.5 million likes, Walker’s post blew up on social media, one thing led to another, and eventually, Evans heard about Bridger’s story. ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis posted a video in which Evans thanks the courageous 6-year-old for being a true hero.

“Pal, you’re a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless — your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you,” Evans said in the message.

“Keep being the man you are, we need people like you,” Evans continued. “Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think there’s much that can slow you down.”

Evans also added that because of his actions, he would send Bridger an “an authentic Captain America shield.”

And that wasn’t the only praise Bridger received. According to the New York Post, several other celebrities — including Mark Ruffalo (the Hulk), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) — have also reached out to thank Bridger.

“I’m not an Avenger, but I know a superhero when I see one. I can only hope I’m half as brave in my life as you are in yours, Bridger,” actress Anne Hathaway wrote on social media on Wednesday alongside photos of Bridger.

What an incredible story. Let us know what you think about Bridger's bravery, and please pass this on to honor this young boy's bravery.
