It may seem as though news stories are constantly reporting on inhumane or disheartening events, but one story about good Samaritans who stepped in to help a distressed airline passenger sheds light on the kinder side of human nature.

When flight 1721 departed from Orlando on its way to Jamaica, one of its passengers began to show signs of respiratory distress within minutes. This woman has lung disease, and the high altitude resulted in difficulty breathing.

While some people would have simply let the airline and flight attendants handle the situation, a few noble medical professionals came to the rescue. The rescue attempt began when a nurse sitting by the distressed woman attempted to help.

When it becomes clear that the nurse’s efforts were not working well, two doctors jumped in to help. They advised the pilot to make an emergency landing at a nearby airport, but they would not land in time to keep the woman alive without intervention.

These two doctors were both anesthesiologists who were properly trained to save lives, but the plan was understandably not equipped to facilitate their efforts. Rather than give up, they decided to use the equipment and supplies on board to innovate a life-saving apparatus.

They first pulled tubing from the overhead oxygen masks just as the woman’s condition became even more critical.

The doctors continued to work quickly by connecting the tubes to her oxygen tanks. The woman was laid down in the middle of the aisle while the doctors worked on her for approximately 45 minutes.

Through their valiant and creative efforts, they kept the woman alive until she could receive emergency medical attention on the ground.

When the plane landed, many of the passengers clapped. This story is going viral on the internet. The incident has renewed hope in how kind people can be to one another. Do you have any similar stories? Tell us in the comments and show this your friends and family.
