Children Of Icons: Kurt Cobain's Daughter And Tony Hawk's Son Are Dating

Who could ever forget just how epic the 1990s were? It was a time filled with Beanie Babies, "Friends" fanatics, and revolutionary music. Some of the greats during this time included Fiona Apple, Green Day, the Spice Girls, and Nirvana. On top of that, there was also a peak interest in sports, specifically skateboarding, thus leading to the popularity of Tony Hawk. Fast forward to today, and the daughter of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and the son of Hawk are happily dating.

Cobain was best known for being a singer, songwriter and musician for the angst-fueled rock band Nirvana. Some of their greatest hits include "Come as You Are," "Lithium" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The band was easily one of the most iconic during the 1990s and paved the way for future rock and alternative bands today. 

On top of that, Cobain was also known for his public relationship to Courtney Love. The pair married in 1992 and welcomed their daughter Frances Bean Cobain in August of that year. In fact, a sonogram of Frances as an unborn baby was included in the artwork for "Lithium." Sadly, Cobain died at the age of 27.

Hawk is a retired professional skateboarder who found a great deal of popularity in the 1990s, and now is the owner of the skateboard company Birdhouse. He is the pioneer of modern vertical skateboarding and even has a video game series named after him. He has four children, with his firstborn being Riley Hawk. Nowadays, Riley and Frances are dating, and fans can't get enough of their amazing romance.

Frances was born on Aug. 18, 1992, and is best known for being a visual artist and a model. She is the only child of Cobain and Love, and has control over the publicity rights of her father's name and image. According to PEOPLE, Frances earns more than $95,000 a month from Cobain's estate, but has "guilt" over her inheritance. "My relationship to money is different because I didn't earn it," she said. "And so it's almost like this big, giant loan that I'll never get rid of."

She continued, "I have an almost foreign relationship to it or guilt because it feels like money from somebody that I've never met, let alone earned myself." Cobain died in April 1994, less than two years after Frances was born.

Frances was previously married to musician Isaiah Silva from The Eeries. They married in June 2014 and Frances filed for divorce in March 2016, with the divorce being finalized in November 2017. According to Page Six, there was a battle over one of Cobain's famous guitars during the divorce settlement, and it ended up going to Frances' "obsessed" ex-husband. However, it was later auctioned off for $6.01 million.

Riley was born on Dec. 6, 1992. Following in his famous father's footsteps, he is also a professional skateboarder. While Hawk is known for his vertical style, Riley is more of a street skater, which focuses on flatground tricks, slides and aerials. This can also include complex obstacles such as handrails, stairs and park benches. Riley turned pro on his 21st birthday. He is also the frontman of the punk band Warish.

Confirming Their Love

On Jan. 1, 2022, Frances uploaded a few photographs to Instagram to showcase what the year 2021 brought her, including pictures of Riley. According to Page Six, this was the first time Frances confirmed her relationship with the skateboarder.

She wrote in the post's caption:

"I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health. 2021 brought me more into the present moment than I've ever been, which I'm grateful for. I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy. Here's to hoping everyone's 2022 is filled with authentic connections, a lot of warmth & profound discovery of self."

The pictures included Riley smiling while holding a dog, as well as a shot of the pair cuddling together while on vacation with Hawk and his wife Catherine Goodman, according to Page Six. Riley was sure to return the love, and replied to his girlfriend's post by writing, "Happy new year my love!"

According to Yahoo, rumors that Frances and Riley were dating first began on Reddit, as one user posted a photo of the couple at dinner together with Hawk and Goodman. Fans of the pair and their famous fathers were ecstatic.

One person wrote, "If they had a child, their grandparents would be two of the largest icons from the nineties. Insane." Another said, "Daughter of the most nineties dude ever is dating the son of the second most nineties dude ever." A third person added, "OK this is legitimately good news for humanity."
