Cher has been an icon for the majority of her life, thanks to her amazing talents as an actress and singer. As a member of the musical duo Sonny & Cher, Cher skyrocketed to pop stardom in the late 1960s before going on to achieve great success in the following years. She has struggled with heartache and hard times throughout her life but has always been a beacon of hope, positivity and happiness for many people all over the world.

Born on May 20, 1946, in El Centro, California, Cher grew up with a great interest in the arts. Her unusually low and unique voice fascinated others, ultimately leading her to become the star she is today. The performer has since become the Goddess of Pop for being a pinnacle figure in the male-dominated entertainment industry. With a career spanning over six decades, it's no surprise that this talented woman has received a plethora of awards and praise for her incredulous work.

When Cher began rising to fame alongside Sonny Bono, fans quickly fell in love with their musical talents, as well as their personalities and amazing sense of fashion. Fans even began dressing similarly to the stars with bell-bottoms, ruffled shirts and fur vests.

Nowadays, at the age of 78, Cher is still a huge fashion icon to many. In January 2022, the "Believe" singer unveiled a new cosmetics campaign and shared her thoughts on beauty, specifically about the color of her hair. While Cher is onboard with people embracing their gray locks, she said that she will not be one of them.

Aging In Hollywood

When it comes to aging in Hollywood, there has sometimes been a double standard for men and women. According to Business Ghana, actress Sarah Jessica Parker previously expressed how frustrating it was to be called out for the parts of her appearance that show her age, while male celebrities were not called out for the very same traits. "I'm sitting with Andy Cohen, and he has a full head of gray hair, and he's exquisite," Parker said. "Why is it OK for him?"

Actress Andie MacDowell has also talked about how she is no longer afraid to hide the fact that she is growing older. She said:

"Honestly, it's exhausting to have to be something that you no longer are. I was finally like, 'You know what? I'm not young. And I'm OK with that.' I hate the word 'embrace,' because it always sounds like you're having to accept something, and I don't feel like that. We're beautiful at every age and glorious in our own way, and we have so much to offer. I feel so much more comfortable. It's like I've taken a mask off or something."

Icon Cher is someone who has a different approach to the naturalness that aging brings, as she has spoken out against the idea of parting with her legendary long, dark jet black hair. According to Business Ghana, Cher is all in favor of those who choose to embrace their natural looks, but she wants to age in a way that makes her feel good. "(Going gray) is fine for other girls," she said. "I'm just not doing it!"

Having Fun With Beauty Products

This is something that Cher has stood by for a while, as she previously admitted that she was not excited about the aging process. Cher explained, "What, I'm going to say I like it? No, I don't. Any woman who is honest will say it's not as much fun."

According to FOX, Cher recently teamed up with rapper Saweetie for a MAC Cosmetics campaign called "Challenge Accepted," which encourages people to experiment with the brand's makeup and share their results on social media using the hashtag #macchallengeaccepted.

Speaking about her views on makeup, Cher said:

"It's all about having fun. I just think that people who worry about the way someone puts on their makeup should get a life."

Although Cher may not be on board with accepting her gray hair, she hopes that her fans will want to experiment with their looks as they age, such as by trying out new makeup or makeup styles. "It has to morph," Cher said. Even Cher has slightly changed her iconic look, as she is now finding herself wearing her hair up more because she is going to the gym, according to FOX. She also is a fan of dramatic eyelashes when she wants to feel more glamorous.

"I think a little bit less if more, because sometimes you can shoot for it and shoot past it," Cher said. Looking back on the years, Cher revealed that she had no regrets about her fashion choices. "I liked all (my looks), really," she said. "And I made some (decisions) that were ridiculous, but I don't care."
