Charming But Confused Rescue Dog Totally Believes He's Just Like His Siblings—A Cat

Rescue dogs find themselves blessed with new homes that provide a loving atmosphere. Frequently, love doesn't solely come from the humans kind enough to take the canine into their home. Other pets in the house embrace their new friend. And don't think only fellow dogs are appreciative. One particular rescue dog can point to felines as friends and even starts acting like one of them.

The dog, named Mako, probably never saw too many cats before. Now that he lives in a home with newfound cat siblings, he has started to behave like a feline. And he looks adorable doing so.

When Bethany Callister made a trip to the local animal shelter, she wasn't sure what pet was coming home to her family. After coming across Mako, she knew she found the right friend. She told The Dodo he was loving and affectionate, and "picked the family" instead of the other way around.

Would Mako get along with his new family's cats? He absolutely did! The engaging pet started to mimic the way the cats behaved around the house. No, he didn't take up purring or other decidedly cat-like behavior.

However, Mako is jumping on countertops as his cat siblings do. The felines are quite a bit smaller than Mako, so it is a little tough for the dog to land gracefully. He seems to be doing okay. Maybe paying careful attention to the cats paid off.

Being able to get along with the cats, named Gizmo and Pecan, wasn't too much of a surprise. The good people at the shelter said they noticed Mako lived nicely alongside the cats there. However, no one expected him to copy Pecan and Gizmo's habits.

One animal copying another animal is nothing unusual. It doesn't happen all the time, but socializing with different animals can lead a dog or cat to mimic atypical behavior, reports Wag!. As long as the resulting changes are harmless and humorous, all is good. Mako's funny behavior adds to the upbeat nature of the story. Shelter animals need a caring home. Mako found one, and he found some new fellow animal friends as well.

Do you have animal lover friends and family members who enjoy hearing funny stories? Tell them about this one. Maybe they will feel inspired to adopt another pet.
