Charlie’s Angels Star Kate Jackson Reveals Why She Left Hollywood & the One Word That Describes Her Life Now

Apr 28, 2026 by apost team

For nearly two decades, Kate Jackson has been living quietly on a farm in Virginia — far from the Hollywood machine that once made her one of the most recognizable faces on television. The "Charlie's Angels" star stepped away from the spotlight around 2006, and by most accounts, she never looked back. Until now.

On April 6, 2026, Jackson made a rare and unexpected public appearance alongside costars Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd at the 50th-anniversary celebration of "Charlie's Angels" at PaleyFest in Los Angeles. "I hadn't done anything like PaleyFest for 20 years, so I was really nervous leading up to it," Jackson, 77, tells PEOPLE.

But the moment she walked on stage, something familiar clicked back into place. "The you that is built in is going to show up. That's exactly what happened. It was a wonderful time." The response she received was overwhelming — and unexpected.

"To have that response was just amazing," she says. "When the phone rings and somebody's got an idea and I start thinking about acting again — I'm getting pretty jazzed about it." Her retreat from Hollywood wasn't sudden. It was deliberate and deeply personal. After "Charlie's Angels" made her a household name, a starring role in the CBS series "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" kept her busy through the late '80s.

Jackson was diagnosed with breast cancer during the show's final season. She battled it twice — first a lumpectomy, then a partial mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Then in 1995, she adopted her son, Charles, and her priorities shifted completely. "If I'm not a good mom, it really doesn't matter what else I do well," she says. "So I just walked away from everything."

Walking away turned out to be one of the best decisions Jackson ever made — for herself and for her son. She threw herself into motherhood with the same intensity she once brought to her career. "I wanted to be the best mom I could possibly be, and that felt like the way to do it," she says. The jobs eventually dried up, and she didn't mind. "My life was busy and full and I loved it. I loved everything about being a mom."

These days, her life looks nothing like it once did — and she wouldn't change a thing. Jackson splits her time between California and her farm in Virginia, a sprawling 128-acre property tucked into the mountains. She keeps chickens and horses, walks the land, and still finds time to ski — though a recent tumble on an Olympic practice run in Colorado has her currently in physical therapy for her back. She says with a laugh:

"In my head I'm still 25."

She added, "I think maybe I'm going to snowshoe now." But PaleyFest has stirred something in her. She's kept her SAG and DGA cards active all these years, and she's now openly talking about returning to work — whether as an actress or a director. "Directing was really fun. I'm pretty darn good at it," she says. "Creative people need to be creative."

Still, whatever comes next, the life she built away from the cameras remains the foundation. Jackson tells PEOPLE:

"I love being in Virginia, and I really enjoy the farm,"

She adds: "It's 128 acres and it's beautiful and it's quiet." Jackson pauses, then lands on the word that says everything:

"It's a good place for me. It's peaceful."
