Buying a new bra or sanitary products when you are homeless or struggling to make ends meet isn't always possible, no matter how essential they might be. For many, the high cost of a bra or the price of a box of tampons is pushed to the side in order to pay for a meal or a tank of gas.

That's where the non-profit I Support the Girls comes in to help give women the items they need and the ability to take care of themselves in a way all women should be able to do.

According to Inside Edition, the organization was started by Maryland resident, Dana Marlowe. I Support the Girls now provides bras and sanitary pads to women and girls all over the world.

With no plan in mind, Marlowe just kinda fell into the role of helping women everywhere to fill the much needed job of securing bras for themselves and sanitary products during their periods.

Marlowe told Inside Edition it all started when she went bra shopping herself and mentioned out loud that because of her change in size, she now had bras that didn't fit but were almost new.

The storekeeper helping with her fitting mentioned that homeless women needed bras, and that simple comment inspired Marlowe to go home and pull out what she had but no longer fit. Dana mentioned the idea to donate her bras to a friend who then dropped her unwanted bras off at Dana's for donation.

Now, Dana has women from all over the world donating bras and unused sanitary products to her non-profit. With the help of family and friends, Dana receives, sorts, and packages bras for women and girls in need every week of the year.

According to Inside Edition, to date the charity has donated well over three million items to women all over the world, and there are even chapters and volunteers carrying on the mission in their own cities and towns. Marlowe does it because of the women that she knows she is helping, the women who don't have the basic items they need to live with dignity and respect, the girls that need the products in order to attend school and get through the day.
