Céline Dion is one of the most talented singers of our generation and today the Canadian songstress is celebrating her 54th birthday. It's incredible to think that she's been performing for over three decades. Even now in her 50s, Dion is still going strong, as she continues to prove that age is nothing but a number.
Dion sang herself into our hearts when we first got to see her in the 1980s when she won the Eurovision song contest. Her phenomenal rise to superstardom only continued, and before long she was known to audiences across the world, whose ages span a wide range. After multiple decades in show business, Dion has enjoyed global success and she's still going strong after the release of her latest album "Courage" in 2019.
With immense success comes a lot of riches but despite her countless number one hits and award wins, Dion has proven over the years that she knows happiness in life is about much more than material items. This is why family is of the utmost importance to her. Sadly, Dion's late husband René Angélil passed away in 2016, but together they have three gorgeous sons — René-Charles Angélil, 21, and twins Nelson and Eddy Angélil, 11.
These days Dion often posts photos with her sons on social media, and she's also cemented her status as a bonafide fashion icon. All the while, she's still performing and continuing to do what she does best. At 54, Dion shows no signs of slowing down. Let's take a look at her thoughts on aging and how "life started over at 50" for her.

Dion needs no introduction. As a global singing sensation, she's been in the public eye since her Eurovision win in 1988. But the last few years have been something of a revival for the singing icon. After the death of René in 2016, Dion has opened up more of herself to the public. She's deeply embraced her love of fashion and hasn't shied away from discussing topics such as womanhood and aging. In an interview with Elle in 2019, she spoke about becoming a L'Oréal brand ambassador in her 50s and how the brand's message to empower women resonated with her. She said:
"Telling other women that they, too, have self-worth, that they are strong, is obviously really important. You cannot limit yourself. My life started over at 50; I feel happy, I feel beautiful. I thought, ‘I must have done something right for this to be happening.’”
She also spoke about how she's slowed down and focused on her own wellbeing more, rather than letting her career dictate the pace and direction of her life. She said:
"I’m not saying that I don’t care what people think of me, but I’ve reached a point in my life where I can let myself make my own decisions and choices ... Now I am discovering myself more and more. I am a woman assuming her own destiny, full of energy and in love with life. It’s never too late to start. At 51, I have the sense that I am at my pinnacle!”
She's certainly not wrong — Dion has found a new audience of fans thanks to her enduring musical legacy and her keen eye for fashion.

In another interview with Allure, Dion spoke once again about how she's in a truly wonderful place, especially when compared to her youth. She spoke about "having problems with (her) teeth, (being) very, very skinny, not feeling pretty, and being bullied at school." She spoke about how she feels now in her 50s:
"I’ve never felt as beautiful, or so in charge. When you do feel in charge, it gives you an extra voice. Even though I still use my voice for singing, I now have a little (extra) voice for raising my children, for making decisions."
She added:
"I would not go back to being 17 or in my 20s or 30s. All that (youth) was wonderful, but I’m never going back in time ... I’m going forward. And I can’t wait for my next birthday."
It's been a few years since then and Dion is staying true to her word. For her 53rd birthday, she posted throwback photos of herself cutting into a birthday cake, alongside the caption:
"I’m not counting the years, but I’m still eating cake for sure! Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"
In the photos, she looked absolutely gorgeous, while her big smile and cheeky demeanor were on full display. Upon entering her 50s, Dion told The Sun:
“To be honest with you, I think I’m at the best of my life right now and I really want to enjoy and embrace every moment of it. It’s all new. It’s like I’m having a second wind — 50 has been great for me.”
Dion is certainly having the time of her life and we can't wait to see what she gets up to next.
