Dion spoke to reporters at The Mirror about the time leading up to René’s passing in 2016. He was bed-ridden at home during his battle with cancer and was too ill to come to one of his wife’s shows during her residency in Las Vegas. Instead, he watched the performance via a live stream.

It was the fulfilment of his final wish. Céline says it wasn’t very therapeutic for her, as she preferred to be by his side rather than working during a difficult time, and had taken time off for a year.
But René, who was also Céline’s manager for years, truly wanted to see his wife shine on stage again. So she braced herself and performed, saying to The Mirror “I didn’t feel like partying or putting on short dresses and feathers...What kept me going was that I thought of him. I did it for him.”
It is a difficult period of mourning for the star but at 51-years-old, Celine Dion is not showing any signs of slowing down. Today, she uses her grief as strength to fuel the “Dionaissance” as fans are calling it where she is selling out venues on her “Courage” World Tour.
Dion sat down with the Los Angeles Times to discuss how she has been making waves in the spotlight in the last few years and how her fans have taken notice, dubbing it the “Dionaissance” on social media. The singer told the publication that she’s unsure how they coined it but she approves of the phrase.
Her new songs and world tour only show off Dion’s new sense of boldness and spirit. “I love the spotlight – I love to be looked at,” she said. “I’m in show business. You show your butt or your back or your shoulder and you go, ‘Voulez-vous coucher avec moi.’ “Life is short,” she continued. “Can we just have a good time?”
