At a recent Las Vegas show, Celine Dion paid an emotional and passionate tribute to her late husband for his 77th birthday. In his memory, she sang a touching song to him and requested that the crowd join-in for his memory.

To celebrate her husband’s, Rene Angelil, would-be 77th birthday, Celine Dion gave him a moving gift that will always be remembered.

During a Las Vegas show at Caesars Palace, Dion gave a powerful melody dedicated to his memory. With the audience’s involvement, she sang a version of Australian singer John Farnham’s "You’re the Voice".

Dion said to the crowd, “this is the greatest gift for him for his birthday because what he loved most was the fans, the music and seeing me perform for you.”

With an emotional crowd watching her every movement and listening to her every word, Dion led the audience in a rehearsal of the chorus then finally said, “Are you ready to sing that for Rene?”

Almost in tears, the crowd agreed and perfectly executed the song. At the end of the song, the crowd burst into a round of applause. Dion then blew a kiss to the sky and wish Rene a happy birthday.

Next, she looked back out into the crowd and expressively said, “I couldn’t have offered him a better gift.”

On the third anniversary of his death, Dion went to social media to share a photo of her late husband along with a tender message in her native French, “Mon cher Rene…tu es toujours avec moi…et tu le seras toujours. A ta douce memoire…xx…”

This message translates to, “My dearest Rene…always with me…always will be. In loving memory…xx…”

On January 14th, 2016, Dion’s husband passed away from throat cancer at 73-years old.

Dion and Angelil were married for 21-years. Angelil was also Dion’s manager for the majority of her career. As husband and wife, they gave birth to twins Eddy and Nelson (age 8) and another son Rene-Charles (age 17).

During a 2017 interview with The Sun, Dion disclosed that losing their father was extremely difficult on the children, especially the twins. However, this tragedy has brought the family closer together.

She further stated, “I think I will probably grieve for him the rest of my life.”

During the same interview, Dion also revealed that she was taught to be a stronger woman by Angelil; “Rene has prepared me for life since I was 12. I have never met…and never kissed another man in my life. I miss him a lot…for my partner, the man I was embracing, kissing, and making love. My worries, my dreams…”

Dion continues to follow Rene’s advice and said she now looks at a photograph of him prior to making career decisions.

Dion discussed how she felt when she first saw him suffering.

She explained, “He suffered a lot for three years. I took one year off and said, ‘My living well is to be with you, it’s not my career. You are my career and you are my life.’ That is what a wife, mother and performer does. I took care of him the best way I knew how.”

Prior to his death, Dion ensured she learned as much as possible about life and her career from the man who made it possible.

Now there is a gaping hole in her life that appeared after her tragic loss. Now, how does she beat the loneliness?

“I organize to ensure I do not feel lonely,” she said. “I got myself a huge bed and I sleep with the twins. They are very comforting but I need them and I need them close. When it is time for them to say they want to sleep in their own room, the room is ready for them. We watch a lot of television together so I am discovering Disney.”

Dion noted that the family continues to talk with Angelil after his death.

“Every night we kiss him. We have a bedtime ritual where we say good night with a small photograph. The kids talk to him, write words and put them in balloons. Then we send the balloons to the sky.”

Aside from talking to him, Dion has created a pre-show ritual where she clutches a bronze replica of his hand. “I shake Rene’s hand and knock on wood with him before every show.”

In his honor, the seat behind the sound-mixing desk will remain empty.

Dion noted, “He taught me so much and did a great job; what he gave me all his life and my life will be with me forever. He gave me his all. He mortgaged his house to gain funds for my first album. I guess prior to him leaving, he wanted to ensure I was OK. I am trying to prove to him daily I’m fine. Our children are grown and we feel strong. We’re good.”
