The audience at the 92nd Academy Awards were seen protesting in their seats as the audio from the microphone got cut during the acceptance speech of the cast and crew of Parasite, which won Best Picture.
It started as one of the producers of the winning film Kwak Sin-ae took to the mic, saying that the victory feels like a “very opportune moment in history. And just when fellow producer Miky Lee was about to say a few words, the audio from the mic got cut off and the cameras panned to Jane Fonda, the presenter for the night, signalling her to wrap up the show.
And the audience was not happy about it.
Seated in the front row, Tom Hanks with his wife, Charlize Theron with her mom, as well as Margot Robbie, were seen causing a commotion, gesturing with their hands in protest for the mic to be turned back on so that Miky could have her speech.

People in the audience were shouting, chanting, and clamouring “Up! Up! Up!”. Eventually, the Oscars producers caved and turned the mic on again and Miky was able to give her speech and expressed her gratitude for the win. Gifs of the scene of the commotion have already started going around social media.
Parasite has made history as the first non-English film to win Best Picture at the Oscars. The South Korean thriller triumphed over fellow acclaimed films like Quentin Tarantino's Once Up on a Time... in Hollywood, Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, and Greta Gerwig's Little Women.

On director Bong Joo Ho, Miky said that she likes everything about him, including his smile, his humor and his crazy hair. But she especially likes the way he directs.
She ended her speech by thanking the Korean film audience, whom she said were the main reason they won.
It’s heartwarming to see the camaraderie and support among people in the film industry. Do you think we will see more non-English films wins in the future?
