No matter the age, it is always important to show affection to your child. Whether it be a hug or a kiss at bedtime, physical contact with your child helps them know that they are important to you and that you love them.
Nonetheless, some forms of physical contact between a parent and a child can be seen as inappropriate by strangers. A celebrity chef recently created a debate as to what qualifies as inappropriate contact between parents and their kids.
Last November, chef Gino D’Acampo became the target of several internet trolls when he shared a picture of him cuddling with his daughter Mia on Instagram. Many of D’Acampo’s followers felt that the photo crossed the line, describing it as “weird” that a 43-year-old man would cuddle a 7-year-old girl. Others were upset as, in the photo, both D’Acampo and his daughter are not wearing shirts.
The big-name chef shrugged-off the complaints on the post, saying that he was just showing his daughter affection and that people who had a negative opinion of the photo were the weird ones, reported The Manchester Evening News.

A still defiant D’Acampo talked about the controversy surrounding his November post in a New Year’s greeting to his fans. The post, which is captioned “Something to think about…I wish you all a Happy New Year,” begins with the chef once again sitting in bed with Mia. D’Acampo then explains to young Mia that many of his followers were upset with their original post. The chef explains to her that he thought it was nice because the two of them were sitting together and cuddling.
D’Acampo reminds Mia that he loves her very much. The little girl then asks why his followers thought the post was strange. Her father replies that there was nothing peculiar about the post and that their detractors are the weird ones. D’Acampo asks Mia what they should say to those who disliked the photo, to which the little girl flips her middle finger at the camera.
After a hearty laugh, D’Acampo told Mia that her mother would not be happy with her for making such a gesture, The Manchester Evening News continued. Most of D’Acampo’s followers have praised the video, saying that Mia was right to have such a reaction to her father’s critics.
D’Acampo is known to never shy away from controversy. During an ITV Christmas special entitled Gordon, Gino, and Fred: Three Unwise Men, the chef revealed that his most expensive Christmas gift was a $4,700 pubic hair from Madonna. Fred Sirieix and Gordon Ramsay, two other big-name chefs that were working with D’Acampo for the special, were both grossed out by D’Acampo’s story.
