Few voices in popular music were as instantly recognizable as Bonnie Tyler's. With her unmistakable raspy vocals and emotionally charged performances, the Welsh singer carved out a career spanning more than five decades, leaving behind a catalog of songs that continue to resonate with audiences around the world. Tyler became an international sensation with "It's a Heartache" before cementing her place in pop culture through the Jim Steinman-penned anthem "Total Eclipse of the Heart," one of the defining power ballads of the 1980s. She later delivered another enduring favorite with "Holding Out for a Hero," while songs such as "Lost in France," "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)" and "Making Love (Out of Nothing at All)" showcased the powerful voice that made her a global star.

Tyler continued recording and performing long after her chart-topping years, remaining a beloved figure in Britain and across Europe while introducing her music to new generations through film, television and streaming platforms. Her enduring popularity was a testament not only to her distinctive sound but also to the warmth and humor that those who knew her often spoke about.

Following her death at the age of 75 after a recent illness, tributes poured in from fans and friends who celebrated both the artist and the woman behind the music. Among the most personal came from actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, whose connection to Tyler extended far beyond admiration. Through Tyler's marriage to businessman and former Olympian Robert Sullivan, Zeta-Jones' cousin, the legendary singer had become part of the actress's extended family, making her passing especially heartbreaking.

For Zeta-Jones, Tyler wasn't simply the voice behind some of music's most unforgettable anthems. She was someone who had shared family celebrations, laughter and milestones over many years. One of the memories the actress chose to revisit after Tyler's passing dated back to her lavish 2000 wedding to Michael Douglas, where the singer performed for the newlyweds and their guests.

Tyler later recalled that evening with characteristic humor, joking that although vintage champagne and fine wine flowed throughout the reception, she refused to indulge until after she had taken the stage to perform. Once the music was over, she laughed, saying she had more than made up for the wait. The story reflected the playful personality that endeared her to friends as much as her extraordinary voice endeared her to audiences.

Remembering those moments, Zeta-Jones shared a photograph of the pair from the wedding celebrations and reflected on what Tyler had meant to her family. She described the singer as someone who had been "such a part of my life," recalling how Tyler "sang and rocked it" at her wedding and praising her as "an extraordinary woman with vocals to match."

The actress also remembered a side of Tyler that fans rarely saw, calling her "a one-of-a-kind artist" who "so easily could have been a comedian because she was one of the funniest people I ever met." She ended her tribute with a deeply personal farewell that captured both her Welsh roots and her affection for her late relative: "Sleep tight beautiful lady. We shall forever 'Keep a Welcome in the Hillsides' of Wales for you. Sending my love to Robert and the family. God Bless."
