Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas continue to have one of the longest-lasting marriages in Hollywood, given that they have been together for more than two decades. And although they have a significant age gap of 25 years, Zeta-Jones and Douglas have shown that age is nothing but a number between two adults who choose to love and cherish each other for life.

Beyond sharing their lives together, the couple also shares a birthday on Sept. 25. While Douglas is at the end of his 70s, and Zeta-Jones is just starting out in her 50s, the two are supportive of each other despite being at different times in their lives. Just like every couple, Zeta-Jones and Douglas have had a number of hardships and times when their relationship was not exactly rosy. In the recent past, the couple has dealt with grief, health scares, and personal turmoils, but the two have stayed together as a strong unit.

Moreover, despite the difficulties that come with constantly being in the spotlight, the couple seems to have made every effort to keep their relationship and family strong. This includes their decision to move away from the United States for more than a decade to give their children a chance to grow up in a more normal environment.

In November 2021, Zeta-Jones and Douglas also celebrated their 21st anniversary together. In the entertainment industry, this is quite a milestone. Not only have the couple been a world favorite duo, but they have also managed to bring their families together seamlessly. They have survived cancer, a separation, and the family is still together to this day.

Douglas was originally married to Diandra Luker, the daughter of an Australian diplomat. Douglas and Luker were married for nearly 18 years before they got divorced in 1995. Together they shared a son, Cameron Douglas

In 1999 Douglas started to date Zeta-Jones and the lovebirds tied the knot in November of 2000. The two had their first child together in August of 2000, a baby boy named Dylan Michael Douglas. The Hollywood pair had their second child together in April of 2003, a baby girl named Carys Zeta-Douglas.

After living in Los Angeles for some time, the A-list couple decided to move away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. In 2001 Douglas and Zeta-Jones moved their family out of the United States and to Bermuda.

Being popular celebrities at the time, Zeta-Jones and Douglas decided that it would be better for the children to grow up away from the limelight and constant attention from the paparazzi.

In Bermuda, they felt that their privacy was being respected. They chose Bermuda as Michael Douglas's mother was a native to these islands and he had spent many summers there as a teenager.

"Bermuda creates an environment for us away from the entertainment business, and gives our kids independence and freedom where showbiz isn't on everybody's lips," Douglas said, as quoted by the Bermuda Sun. "It's a lovely, lovely place." After the family learned of Dylan’s Dyslexia, they moved back to the United States to be closer to better schools.

In 2010 the family would face life-changing news. Douglas was diagnosed with tongue cancer. After undergoing chemotherapy, Douglas was eventually cancer-free. However, in 2013 the public and press were shocked to know that one of Hollywood’s favorite couples would be separating.

And then in 2013, after 13 years of marriage, the couple announced they were calling it splits, according to the Daily Mail. Clearly, they couldn't stand to be away from each other and just a year later managed to reconcile and put their differences behind them. Fortunately, Douglas and Zeta-Jones rekindled their marriage and have been together ever since.

"I think we're both mellower and wiser. That comes naturally with time," Zeta-Jones told AAR. "We count our blessings,” the star actress added

Zeta-Jones spoke about how they still manage to keep their relationship going after all these years and difficulties to WSJ in April 2021.

"My husband and I spend a lot of time together because, unlike so many couples, we've never had a 9-to-5 job where it's consistent. We're either on or we're off. I'm really working 16 hours a day, or I'm not. He's doing the same, or not,” Zeta-Jones said.

“So we've had in our relationship huge amounts of time where we've been just us. We lived on the island of Bermuda for 12 years bringing up our kids. We respect each other's space, and our humor is just long-lasting," she said

With three nearly full-grown children, the couple is busy working, being grandparents, and having fun.

Zeta-Jones opened up in an April 5, 2021 piece from The Wall Street Journal Magazine about the factors that keep the foundation of her marriage so strong with Douglas, and interestingly, it is simple enough: "First of all, we have a lot of fun together," she told the publication.

"With any relationship, it wouldn't be normal if there weren't any ups and downs," Zeta-Jones added. "The constant is love and respect. We've never, ever lost our sense of humor, and we enjoy each other's company."
