Catherine Zeta-Jones Defends 4 Properties She Shares With Michael Douglas As ‘Not Excessive’

Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband, legendary actor Michael Douglas, have created a life together that balances glamour with practicality. Although the couple owns four impressive residences across the globe, Zeta-Jones has made it clear that her preference leans toward comfort and livability rather than anything too “excessive.” The actress has often spoken about how important it is for her to feel at ease in her surroundings, especially when those surroundings are undeniably luxurious.
Zeta-Jones, who was born in Swansea, Wales, and rose to fame with roles in films such as “The Mask of Zorro” and her Academy Award-winning performance in “Chicago,” has built a career that spans decades and genres. She and Michael first met in the late 1990s, and after a whirlwind romance, the two became engaged in December 1999. They officially tied the knot in a glamorous ceremony on Nov. 18, 2000, making them one of Hollywood’s most enduring power couples.
Together, they have raised two children, Dylan and Carys Douglas, both of whom have occasionally stepped into the spotlight but largely keep their personal lives private. Family has always remained at the center of Zeta-Jones’ priorities, even as she continues to act, produce, and explore business ventures, including her own lifestyle and homeware collections.
Michael, who also has a son, Cameron Douglas, from his previous marriage to Diandra Luker, shares his wife’s appreciation for a more grounded home life. Despite their global recognition and considerable wealth, the couple’s approach to their private spaces reflects a desire for warmth, familiarity, and above all, comfort.

In a conversation with The Sunday Times, Zeta-Jones, 55, opened up about the lifestyle she shares with her husband, Michael, 80. The couple, who have been married for nearly 25 years, maintain four residences around the world, one in Canada, another in Spain, and two in New York.
Despite the glamour associated with such a setup, Zeta-Jones explained:
“I know it sounds very jet set, and I love to surround myself with beauty but it’s not excessive, it’s very comfortable.”
Though often admired for her elegant style, the Oscar-winning actress emphasized that she keeps her everyday wardrobe grounded. As she put it, “a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans,” and she has no interest in spending hundreds of dollars on something as basic as a plain white T-shirt.
Sharing more about her fashion preferences, Zeta-Jones said:
“I go to all the vintage stores in Paris. I buy things that you are probably never going to wear, like a gorgeous cape, just great pieces.”
She went on to add:
“I am loving classic Yves Saint Laurent at the moment. I get excited about evening dresses. For me, a pair of jeans is a pair of jeans. Spending £200 (about $270) on a white T-shirt? Nah. But when it comes to couture, beautiful beading, the artistry … I love the theatre of fashion.”
The “Wednesday” star also reflected on her roots in Wales. Raised by her mother, Patricia, a seamstress, and her father, David, who worked in a candy factory, Zeta-Jones recalled how a bingo win of over $135,000 helped fund her early dance lessons. Looking back, she told the outlet:
“It feels like a very precocious thing, and I don’t know where it comes from, but I’d say it out loud, ‘I want to be on the stage.’ I was a bit of a prodigy.”
