Helen Mirren has come to reprise another role as a queen. The Oscar award-winning actress is tackling the role of Catherine The Great in a new HBO and Sky miniseries. Out of all the period piece characters she's portrayed, this has been the role she's wanted the most.

In the new trailer for the show, the actress seems to have captured the very essence of Catherine the Great. In one of the shots from the trailer, Catherine (Mirren) holds her fist up and asks, "Do you know what I hold in my hand? Absolute power." The music booms in and you can tell how intense this role will be for Mirren.

The executive producer of the show, David M. Thompson, told Entertainment Weekly,

“Helen Mirren came to me with the idea for Catherine the Great when we were working with her on Woman in Gold, saying it’s a part she’s always wanted to play,” he said.  “I’m delighted we’re now making the series and indeed we can’t think of anyone better for the role.”

Mirren on her own released in a statement cited by EW,

“I am very excited by the possibility of embodying a woman from history who grabbed and then wielded great power, she rewrote the rules of governance by a woman, and succeeded to the extent of having the word Great attached to her name, Catherine the Great.

I am very grateful to have HBO and Sky as partners in this endeavor. There are no other homes on television that bring the support and understanding needed for this kind of project," she said.
