Cat With Rare Type Of Dwarfism Will Remain Kitten-Sized For Life

Apr 07, 2020 by apost team

Munchie, the cat with dwarfism, was found abandoned back in September 2019 and taken to Wolverhampton veterinary practice. The fairly young kitten managed to pull through.

There, he met Emily Tomlinson, who works there, and she became his mom.

Munchie was abandoned when he was just three or four weeks old. The assumed reason for his abandonment was his cloudy eyes, a condition that many mistakenly believe affects a cat's eyesight when in reality doesn't affect their vision in any way.

Munchie also has dwarfism, which means he will stay kitten-sized forever. For any cat lover, having your cat stay small forever would sound like an absolute dream.

When he was abandoned, he was brought to a veterinary practice in Wolverhampton, UK where he met his would-be mom. Emily Tomlinson, who works at the clinic, saw Munchie and made the life-changing decision to adopt him.

Posting about her new fur-child on Instagram, Emily, 29, wrote:

"Blood results came back and It looks like I'm a hypoparathyroidism kitten, this condition is so rare!"

Emily shares that she's only heard of one other cat with the condition, and it is not based in the UK, where she and Munchie live. She also discovered that he had a calcium level of 0.52 as opposed to the normal range of 1.9.

While very little is known about the condition, it's clear that Munchie is well taken care of, and very loved by Emily.

Have you heard of hypoparathyroidism or have a cat that has it? Pass this along to your friends and family to spread the word about this rare condition.
