Carol Burnett is in a class of her own when it comes to comedy. One of the fun roles she played on her show was that of Queen Elizabeth.

In this comedy sketch, Queen Elizabeth (Burnett) and her husband arrive at the palace and try to enter. They encounter a palace guard who blocks their way. "Can't go in the palace," the guard states simply. The queen argues with the guard, who asks for a password and insists that the royals cannot enter the palace without it.

While being stopped, threatened, and prevented from entering, the queen and her husband confer several times. Recognizing that the guard was actually a wounded hero of the royal army, they try to respectfully convince the guard to take a bribe.

The nice, new, shiny coin the prince offers is not of interest to the guard. So, the queen tries to find out the guard's price. The man wants a popsicle. A buffalo popsicle. An obliging ice cream seller happens by on a bicycle, but he has no buffalo flavor. Nor does the ice cream man have the other outlandish flavors the guard requests. Antelope? Goat hoof?

The queen eventually loses her cool and begins yelling at the guard. She waves her arms, screams, and dislodges her sparkling crown. Meanwhile, the prince tries to resolve the situation.

When the prince goes to the ice cream cart to investigate, he declares that buffalo flavor is indeed in stock, way in the back of the ice cream cart. The guard hands his gun to the queen and stomps over to the cart to investigate.

When the guard puts his head into the cart to see the desired items "way at the back," the prince shoves him in and sends the cart on its way. Thus, the situation is resolved and disaster is averted.

In true Carol Burnett fashion, the comedy sketch is full of great details. The interactions between queen and prince are truly hilarious. The prince corrects her grammar. He is amused by some of the guard's threats. Burnett's facial expressions and gestures are perfect.

Carol Burnett and Tim Conway developed their own brand of humor. America loved it then and loves it now. What about you? Do you know a Carol Burnett fan who misses seeing Burnett's awesome comedy? Send this video to them and make them smile today.
