Caring Golden Retriever Adopts Ten Stray Baby Chicks

It's well-known that dogs are man's best friend, but it appears that status might apply to many other species, too. Retriever-Coyote mix, Bailey, gave her owner's quite the surprise when she found and subsequently "adopted" ten baby chickens who wandered into their yard.

As fate would have it, Bailey, who loves being outside in her yard, has always been a kind, friendly and gentle doggy. Though she has never had pups of her own, her mothering instincts kicked in immediately upon finding the chicks.

A Mother's Intuition

Luckily, Bailey's family caught the endearing moment on video. You can see her gentle movements with the stray chicks as she rolls onto her back in sheer joy. The young birds think nothing of cuddling up to the dog as they waddle closer. It's like they instinctively know they have a mother figure in Bailey, and Bailey instinctively knows they need her.

You can't help but smile with all the feels as you watch Bailey survey her adorable new babies, affectionately "kissing" each one on their heads. It appears as if she is rounding the babies up, bringing them closer to her for protection. If that isn't the most adorable thing you've seen today, keep watching.

Though no one is certain what happened to the baby chicks' mother, they seemed to have found a surrogate in Bailey. Both the chicks and Bailey couldn't seem happier to have found each other.

Eventually, the baby chicks found a more appropriate home, but don't worry! Bailey gets to visit with her babes periodically.

As it Should Be

This video just proves that Mother Nature has it all figured out. The way this canine took these helpless birds in as her own should be a lesson in love for all of us in this world. It did not matter to her that they looked different from her, she loved them regardless.
