Margaret Mackie, an 83-year-old woman with dementia who is living in a nursing home in Scotland, just became a recording artist.

Margaret's memory is on the decline, but she can still recall the words of her favorite song, Frank Sinatra's "My Way".

When her carer, Jamie Lee Morley, heard Margaret singing, he took her to a recording studio just before Christmas so the lady could fulfill her dream. The result is a hit that reached the Top 40 - beating the likes of Ed Sheeran and James Blunt.

Mrs. Mackie will sometimes go through episodes that prevent her from being aware of her surroundings, but "My Way" is something she has never forgotten. It did not take long for the nursing home staff to recognize that Mrs. Mackie had a great voice, and this prompted Jamie Lee Morley, one of her care providers who is also a musician, to join her in a rendition of "My Way" at the most recent Christmas party in the facility, as detailed here at CBS News.

The audience loved the performance, so Morley arranged for Mrs. Mackie to travel to Edinburgh so that they could record a proper version of her favorite tune at a formal music studio. He participated as a backup singer, and then he felt that a nice final touch was in order: he converted the master recording into a format suitable for uploading to the Apple iTunes store in the United Kingdom and it is now in the charts!

To this duo's surprise, their record made it to the Top 40 along with heavy hitters such as Ariana Grande and Lizzo. This was truly incredible, and Mrs. Mackie was able to comprehend a good amount of what was happening. She was happy, and this is what many geriatric specialists recommend for patients with this condition. She will never recover but having quality of life and being able to enjoy moments of joy can help ease the pain that patients are not able to understand.

Morley says that a hundred percent of any profits made with go to the Dementia UK and Alzheimer's society.

Do you know nursing home staff members as dedicated to their patients as Morley? Pass this on to your friends and ask them to listen to Mrs. Mackie's great cover of "My Way" for a truly heartwarming moment.
