The holiday season is vastly approaching, and there are numerous kids around the world scrolling through websites for what they want to ask Santa to bring. Meanwhile, adults are planning what they are getting for their significant other or relatives, some of them probably wondering how many hours of overtime they’ll have to work for it.

But what about those people who want gifts that money cannot buy?

Six-year-old Matilda was just three when she was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2016. As a young girl who was being treated in hospital hours away from home, all she wanted was a holiday with her family. While her condition made her dream seem to not be within reach, thanks to CLIC Sargent, a children’s cancer treatment charity, her Christmas wish actually came true.

As CLIC Sargent reported on their website, Matilda’s parents Gabby, Dave, and little brother Marley were able to be with her over Christmas, thanks to the foundation. The family had been given a "Home From Home" to spend a few weeks close to the unit that was treating her.

Being 100 miles away from home while undergoing cancer treatment would be difficult for anyone, especially during the holidays. Simply knowing they were close by gave Matilda the comfort she needed.

CLIC’s Homes From Home organization currently has ten homes in eight cities, including Glasgow and Southampton, with hopes of expansion within the next two years. Each home is fully staffed, from housekeepers to a house manager, to make sure every cancer family in the organization have an opportunity to forget about their health issues for a brief period and enjoy themselves.

While this organization is a gift that keeps on giving for cancer patients and their families, they cannot foot the entire bill. To keep this program going, they do need additional funding. Due to the facilities usually being a great distance from the children’s homes, a lot of the expense accumulates due to traveling costs.

Even though Matilda was in pain on Christmas day while recovering, she was able to be with her family. The CLIC organization is estimated to service thousands of families this holiday season. If this story moves you, consider telling your friends and family about the organization.
