A cancer diagnosis is one of the scariest things in the world. All it takes is a few words from your doctor to completely turn your whole life upside down. When you're diagnosed with cancer, it feels like all your good luck has finally expired.

For Ronnie Foster of Pink Hill, North Carolina, getting diagnosed with colon cancer was one of the worst things he'd ever experienced. Ronnie bravely battled the disease through multiple rounds of chemotherapy, which took a toll on his body and mind.

According to the Daily Mail, when on his way to his final chemotherapy appointment, Ronnie decided to pull over and pick up a scratch-off lottery ticket at a local gas station. After all, he needed something to add a little fun to what was otherwise a glum day.

"I didn't believe it until I gave it to the clerk at the counter to scan," He said, as cited by the Daily Mail. "When it showed, 'Go to lottery headquarters,' I started shaking. I couldn't believe it."

The ticket cost a $1, but it turned out to be a winner. Ronnie won $5. On a whim, he decided to use the earnings to buy another ticket. That's when the unthinkable happened.

Ronnie won a whopping $200,000. After what felt like months of bad luck and misfortune, the brave cancer patient finally got some good news.

At first, Ronnie was shaking and in total disbelief at the numbers he saw on the card in his hands. The gas station clerk advised him to go to the local lottery center to redeem his winning card. After taxes and fees, Ronnie took home a little over $140,000 in cash.

"Winning this made it my lucky day," Ronnie said.

Thankfully, Ronnie had good insurance at the time of his diagnosis, which meant he won't have to use the majority of his winnings to pay medical expenses.

To make his big win even more miraculous, the state of South Carolina apparently only issued one of the big $200,000 winning tickets and is planning on discontinuing that specific lottery card after the current batch has been purchased.

This story serves as an important reminder that even when things are looking bad, all hope is not lost. In our darkest moments, we might just experience the greatest gifts that life has to give.

If someone you know is going through a difficult time, show them this story. Remind them that there's always hope, no matter how bleak things might seem.
