You may think that you’d never lose sight of your pet, but it happens more than you think. And when animals who are loving and loyal parts of our family run away, we may be unsure about what to do. Some people put up ‘lost pet’ signs or call the local police department to find out if anyone has seen their pet, but sometimes the situation becomes even more desperate.

For one family, their vacation became a nightmare when their dog got away from them. They knew that the dog would not be able to find his way back to them, as they were in an area he was unfamiliar with. The family wasn’t sure what their next steps should be.

During this past Christmas, a couple by the names of Kailaan Walker and Lydia Selin were in quite the dilemma after they took their two dogs for a walk around St. Joseph Island, located in Canada. The couple were spending time in the area to celebrate the holidays with their family.

But when their dog named Logan ran off from them during the walk, they almost gave up hope in finding him.

For countless days, the couple sought out their dog in any way that they could, even setting up cameras to locate the beloved pooch. Knowing that they couldn’t stay on an extended vacation forever, they reluctantly returned home without their family pet. But before they knew it, they got the call that would change their lives and reinstate their faith in the world.

But who called them? None other than a US Coast Guard member. Their dog Logan had been located after crossing the border through the water to the United States! Thankfully, team members from the Coast Guard were able to coax the dog into coming near them using food, a makeshift dog house, and a fire.

They took great care of the animal until his owners were able to make the long drive out to bring him back home. Although the dog sustained some injuries such as frostbitten paws, he was nursed back to help by the Coast Guard with the advice from a veterinarian.

Thankfully, Kailaan and Lydia eventually got to have a reunion with their beloved four-legged friend and all was right in the world once again. They were so thankful to the Coast Guard for their kindness in saving their dog’s life. What do you think about this unbelievable story? Have you ever reunited a lost animal with its owner?
