Can You Use Elementary Geometry To Solve This Brainteaser?

Do you still remember elementary geometry? Why not put it to the test and see if you can solve this tricky brainteaser. All you have to do is prove that in the image below, angle C is equal to the sum of angels A and B! Ready? Set? Go!

If we construct two additional squares (represented by the dotted lines), it is clear that angle C is the sum of angles A and D. Angle B equals angle D because they are corresponding angles of similar right right triangles (with the respective legs in the 1:2 proportion). We can now substitue B for D which means that C equals the sum of A and B.
