Dora the dog had gone missing on July 4th, 2012, when she jumped the fence of her family's yard. She was frightened by the fireworks and had tried to escape the loud noises. When weeks of searching for the pup remained unsuccessful, Dora's family started to lose hope, but 7 months later, in February 2013, she was found by an animal shelter who had scanned her microchip and the reunion is extremely heartwarming.

Nothing breaks our hearts more than knowing that our beloved family pet will not be around forever. We might try to give them the best care possible in an attempt to prolong their lives, but all we can do is give them amazing experiences in life and build great memories.

A similar feeling of despair occurs when you cannot find your beloved pet. If he or she is a known escape artist, this might be the least of your concerns, but for a first escape, pet parents can become very worried. Most of the time, our escaped pets will find their way home, but sometimes, a bit of human assistance is required.

One tale of the sudden disappearance of a pet for several months

Dora the dog executed her unplanned escape on the date of July 4th. The fireworks in her neighborhood in Frisco, Texas had scared her so badly that she decided to take off. Her family searched every corner of the neighborhood for their furry friend relentlessly, leaving no cranny unsearched. Their search continued for weeks until the owners began to despair that they would never see their beloved pet again.

While finding her seemed very unlikely, they did not give up. 7 months after the incident, Dora was found nearly over 10 miles away from home. She was found and recognized on the streets by Collin County Animal Services who had scanned her microchip. Dora was found in Mckinney, Texas, a long while away from her home.

When Dora's family arrived at the shelter to collect her, they were almost nervous, not knowing how to properly react at the news of finding her again. Their worries were immediately squelched when Dora immediately recognized them and ran playfully towards them. She was happy to be at home with her family after such a long time away.

This moment was amazing and very heartwarming. The embrace of Dora and her owner is so tender and full of affection. Luckily, the moment was captured on film as the two are locked in a tender hug.

The statistics over found dogs has not been that great, meaning that there was a little chance of Dora ever being found. According to Petfinder, only 15 to 20% of stray pets return to their homes. With this number being so little, Dora's family was certainly lucky to have found their missing furry friend.

The microchip placed in her during her adoption played a major role in getting her back home safely. Microchipping is an excellent safety precaution that can help you find your dog if he or she ever goes missing, whether a few miles away from home or ten. If your pet is ever stolen or simply lost, the microchip will help in identifying its owners.

Dora looks like she is almost in shock as her father leads her out of the animal shelter. The scene is so unreal and both Dora and her father seem extremely happy to have found each other at last. One can only imagine how scared Dora must have been in her journey away from home.

The most important message of this story is to not leave your pets outside if fireworks are going off. The loud noises and flashy lights of fireworks can easily scare pups, both old and young. Dora had most likely attempted to run away from these noises and lights but had lost her sense of direction in the process.

The video of this reunion has been circulating the web and touches the hearts of everyone who watches it.
