Sam Phannarith was driving in Siem Reap Province in Cambodia recently when he spotted a small cage attached to a motorcycle. Sam was suspicious of what might be in the cage, so he followed closely behind the vehicle until he could determine what he was seeing.

After a while, he realized that there were a bunch of dogs crammed into the small cage. Sam realized that the dogs were not meant to be pets. They were actually destined to be sold for meat. In some Asian countries, the sale of dog meat is currently on the rise, and Cambodia is one of those nations.

It turned out to be a lucky day for the dogs on this day because Sam was a compassionate person who was willing to save them from the butcher. Sam stopped the motorcyclist and made a deal with the dog seller to set the animals free for a sum of $350.

The owner of the motorcycle also had a collection of pots and cookware, which seemed to be for the purpose of cooking the dogs if the occasion should arise. Sam shared his story with The Daily Mail, saying that he was happy to spend the money to free the dogs. He couldn't stand the idea of these pups being eaten as someone's dinner.

There were 9 dogs in total that were being transported in the small cage. It cost approximately $40 to spare each of the animals from an untimely death. Sam would like to believe that his kindness will set an example for other people to follow.

People in the west don't understand why dogs are desirable as food. Some people in Asia find the taste of dog meat more enjoyable than pork, and they also believe that dog meat has some health benefits.

According to Humane Society International (HSI), about 30 million dogs are killed each year in Asian countries for food consumption, and the demand for dog meat is growing.
