California Teen Spends Free Time Throwing Birthday Parties For Homeless Children
Oct 11, 2019 by apost team
For those who grew up with a stable home and loving parents, a party to celebrate a birthday or special event is not unusual. Children who are homeless or who have no family are not so fortunate. One teenager is trying to give less fortunate kids a special event of their very own.
Tanvi Barman is 17 years old and a senior in a California high school. While many of her classmates goof off on weekends, Tanvi has another mission. She travels to homeless shelters throwing personal parties for children in each one reports CBS.
You've likely never heard her name, but you will love the work that Tanvi does. She made the decision to use her weekends helping children in homeless shelters around the Bay Area.

Many of these children have never had a party held in their honor before. However, they soon get into the party spirit, with plenty of fun and smiles to go around.
Tanvi started a non-profit organization to spread the work she is doing as far as possible. The organization, "No Birthday Left Behind," came from her volunteer work in homeless shelters, which started when she was a child. This work has become her passion.
The idea of throwing parties for the children came when she started considering how her life differed from theirs. They didn't get to celebrate their birthdays like she and her friends did. That's when the work began.
She noted that it's difficult for these children to find happiness some times. She hopes that providing them with a special day will help them feel loved and special.
Tanvi reached out to local vendors to get donations for party food and entertainment. She also received donations for party decorations. After a few parties, her idea started to get some traction. Several shelters in the area reached out when a younger resident had a birthday coming up.
During a party, the kids flock to Tanvi. They start holding her hands, tugging on her sleeve and totally trusting the teen.
The birthday parties come with food and decoration, plus entertainment like face painters and puppeteers. This mix gives the kids a very special day they definitely deserve. Tanvi deserves a round of applause for the work she's doing. May her organization and spirit spread to as many kids as possible.
