California Police Officer Adopts Baby Of Homeless Woman Struggling With Addiction

Officer Jesse Whitten of the Santa Rosa Police Department would often come across a homeless woman who was lost in the throws of addiction while he patrolled the streets each night. As time went on, it was beginning to become more and more apparent that the woman was with child.

Officer Whitten's wife Ashley was used to occasionally accompanying her husband during these safety checks, but one night they had an encounter that would eternally transform their lives.

It began like any other shift with Officer Whitten and his wife maintaining the peace in this Sonoma County city. After spotting the homeless woman that the officer routinely interacted with during his patrolling hours, the couple went up to her to ensure that she wasn't in need of any assistance.

Turns out, she was in need of some monumental assistance...but it was not the type of assistance that either of them would have ever expected.

The woman explained to the married couple that she was in search of a stable home for her unborn child. She knew the complexity of being in the midst of active addiction was not a secure lifestyle for her to raise a child in.

Knowing that Officer Whitten had three daughters of his own, she had hoped that he and his wife would be open to the idea of adopting her newborn child once they had arrived.

Three months after their discussion, the Whittens received a call that the woman had just given birth to a baby girl. She was still insistent that Officer Jesse and his wife adopt the infant to provide it with an empathetic yet structured upbringing.

The Whittens took some necessary time to effectively reflect on the situation and the level of responsibility that a newborn infant would bring into their lives.

Ultimately, they decided to proceed with the adoption process, providing the child with a secure and loving home.

Harlow Masie Whitten is the name that has been bestowed onto the little girl, and Officer Jesse and Ashley cannot stop doting on what a blessing it is to see her huge smile every day. Ashley and Jesse still have an amicable relationship with Harlow's birth mother, and they've openly expressed their gratitude surrounding her selfless act.
