Bus Driver Spots Toddler Running On Freeway Overpass In Freezing Weather, Chases After Him

When Milwaukee County Transit System bus driver Irena Ivic saw a small child running unattended along the side of the road, mostly naked and without any shoes through the cold 8 am weather on December 22nd, she leapt into action and got the child inside.

Reported on by CBS News, Ivic- with the tacit approval of her rush-hour passengers- stopped her bus and ran down the street to catch the under-dressed child. She brought the child on board the bus, where a passenger-supplied the kid with their coat.

Obviously comfortable with Ivic, the child quickly fell asleep in her lap while she reported the incident. The Milwaukee County Transit System has the entire incident on recorded video, proving that Ivic acted in a heroic and admirable fashion. She saw a child in need and reacted in the only way she could, by helping out.

The little boy was completely unattended and poorly dressed for the cold weather found a mere three days before the Christmas holiday and Ivic knew that someone had to do something- and rather than waiting for someone else to do it, she acted. To be clear: Her job isn't to save children, but that's what she did when presented with the need for it.

According to the Milwaukee County Transit System, this was the eighth time one of their workers had saved a child. The Transit management obviously sees the benefits of having workers who are not only employed in the community but also willing to act to make things better within it.

Emergency services arrived to find a safe, sleeping child in Ivic's lap and were able to take charge of the situation from there. They determined that the child's mother had left him outside without proper supervision or clothing and he had gotten away from her. Emergency services reunited the boy with his father.

Ivic described herself as "shaking" during the incident, her fear for the child manifesting itself physically as she tried to save him. Her passengers were equally in shock, but it was Irena Ivic who overcame her fear and bravely rescued the child from the dangers of both the cold and the street.

Though a passenger did allow the use of their coat to help warm the child, it was the actions of the bus driver that made the real difference- showing us all that bravery is its own reward.

Oh wow! We need more people like her! What do you think about this? Make sure your friends and family will also see this.
