As hard as we try to keep our kids safe, sometimes they get the best of us. We do everything that we can to put locks and alarms on our doors and windows. We install cameras and alarms around the house. But sometimes, it isn’t enough. Some parents may not even have the extra money to add more security to their home.

In these cases, you have to make sure your children do not wander out the door without supervision. You never really know when your child is going to wake up in the middle of the night and quietly slip off. Kids can get confused, especially when they have been asleep and dreaming. We hear about it all too often.

Luckily, many drivers spot lost children and are able to take care of them before help arrives. This was the case for a bus driver in Milwaukee who stopped her bus after spotting a small, shivering child wandering down the sidewalk. The 5-year-old was barefoot and obviously scared and lost.

According to the Inside Edition, Karen Martinez was making the usual rounds in the morning when she saw the child walking by himself down the sidewalk with no socks or shoes on. She stopped the bus, picked up the boy, and brought him back on with her. She reported that it was so cold that he was shaking. She then asked him to sit down while she called the police.

While they sat and waited for the police to get there, Karen talked with the child to keep him calm. She even gave him some paper and a pencil to draw a picture with. A passenger who was already on the bus wrapped her jacket around the boy. He even broke into a big smile when Martinez offered to let him “drive.” She picked him up and let him sit behind the big wheel of the bus.

The Milwaukee County Transit System praised Martinez on their Facebook page after watching surveillance video taken from the bus.

Luckily, the local police reunited the young boy with his family. It was not made known why or how the child got lost. We are just so glad that this wonderful bus driver was driving by when she was!
