Bus Driver Gets Rewarded For Generous Actions During Heat Wave

Mike Blair, a bus driver in Nevada, showed the world in 2018 that everyone can be a hero when he sprang into action to help one of his passengers, a dehydrated elderly man, by sitting him directly by the air conditioner and giving him his water bottle from his lunch box.

Besides recognition on the Internet, Blair was also rewarded by his company, who got him a gift bag, balloons, and a cake.

The excessive heat in many parts of the nation during the summer is tough on everyone. It means everyone needs to leave their home with lots of water and sun protection. Sometimes the sun still beats us down, and you'd hope in these times you have people like this man to check on you

As FOX 5 reported, Mike Blair was driving his bus when he saw an elderly man visibly having trouble outside in the sweltering heat. It was 105 degrees, not a safe temperature for most people. Blair could tell the man was suffering from heat exhausting. He spotted the man at one of his usual bus stops. He noticed the man didn't want to get on the bus. The man was leaning against the wall in distress.

Blair got out of his driver's seat and rushed to help the man. He helped him get on the bus, KTNV explained, and then placed him in the seat closest to the air conditioning. Blair got his water bottle out of his lunch box and gave the man a drink. After a short drive on the bus with water, the elderly gentleman as at his stop.

Come to find out, the man was 92-years-old. This type of heat could kill him. Someone took a photo of Blair helping the man. His employer, Keolis, and the Regional Transportation Commission praised him for his heroic acts. Blair is now an internet celebrity for being an everyday hero.

He says he was just doing what anyone would do. He says everyone should treat each other as family. Blair's company, Keolis, trains all their bus drivers to spot signs of heat exhaustion. They distributed 10,000 water bottles to passengers this summer to aid symptoms due to the excessive heat.

They also threw a party for Blair. He still doesn't understand that he did anything different than anyone else. He wants to inspire kindness and for others to do good in the world.
