Pets can be wonderful additions to families, especially for those who need a little extra love and support in their lives. For one 7-year-old boy, he was given the best gift he could’ve possibly received after enduring some hardships at school. Jensen Stuart was bullied relentlessly, and his family wanted to do something to help him feel better. They gave him the friend of a lifetime when they gifted the little boy a brand new puppy in August 2019.

No parent wants to find out that their child is struggling, whether it’s with their studies, a project they’re working on or problems with other children. Kids can be ruthless when they’re young, as they have not fully developed yet and are still learning how to express sympathy and empathy toward others. For Jensen’s family, they wanted to do something to help their sweet young boy feel better about the difficulties he was having at school due to his classmates constantly bullying him.

Despite a clear difference in language and mannerisms, humans and animals have been known to develop real bonds and friendships with each other. The relationship between pets and their owners can be absolutely beautiful, and these sweet animals can quickly become best friends with people.

Jensen had been through a lot at school and had quite a few negative experiences and emotions to work through. Thankfully for him, he was surrounded by loved ones when he came home from school one day and received a heartwarming gift from his grandmother. His new puppy would soon become his best friend and loyal companion.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), children raised with pets show many benefits. Forming a bond with a pet can help kids develop positive feelings, which can contribute to their own self-esteem and self-confidence. “Positive relationships with pets can aid in the development of trusting relationships with others,” according to the AACAP.

Since animals obviously don’t speak the same language as humans, building a relationship with pets can help children develop non-verbal communication skills, compassion and empathy. Other benefits of owning a pet include learning valuable life lessons about birth and death, learning responsibility and learning how to respect others. Lastly, pets “can be safe recipients of secrets and private thoughts” for children, according to the AACAP.

A video of the sweet exchange was recorded by Jensen’s grandfather and later uploaded to YouTube on Aug. 11, 2019. The video has since received over 2,000 views and plenty of love from commenters. It seemed like a typical day for Jensen as he came home from a long day at school, until his family told him that there was a surprise waiting for him. Jensen quickly noticed the huge gift box lying on the floor nearby and hurried over to open it excitedly.

The box was opened in a matter of seconds, and Jensen took a peek inside to find out what his surprise was. The young boy quickly became overwhelmed with emotions as he saw a precious puppy staring back at him. He gasped, and exclaimed, “A puppy!” With a little help from his family members, the puppy was soon taken out of the box and placed in his arms.

Finding Comfort In A New Friend

Jensed sobbed uncontrollably as he held the sweet animal. “I’m so happy,” he said through the tears falling down his cheeks. According to the I Love My Dogs So Much blog, Jensen was constantly cornered by other children, and always anxious and fearful of what was going to happen to him. This tiny puppy finally brought him a sense of comfort, and he finally had a companion by his side.

It was clear that the puppy felt just as safe with his new owner, as he began sniffing Jensen and pressed his furry face against the boy’s. Jensen quickly picked a name for his new friend, despite the tears still falling down his face. “Buddy the Elf,” he revealed.

Jensen took some deep breaths and tried to calm down as he sat on the couch while holding the cute puppy. “Introducing my dog, Buddy the Dog,” he said, slightly changing the name and holding up the tiny dog. Jensen then took the time to introduce Buddy to the rest of the family, before finally introducing himself to the puppy. “I am Jensen, your bestest friend now,” the boy said.

Jensen’s emotions didn’t subside throughout the video, but it was clear that he was overjoyed with the family’s newest addition. He admitted to already loving the puppy “really much.” Even though Jensen couldn’t stop crying, it was clear he was over the moon with his gift of Buddy. With his new friend by his side, and knowing he has a reliable companion, hopefully Jensen will feel a little better and safer.
