Therapy pets help in so many ways. They can help you sleep better at night and feel more confident during the day. Therapy pets also help lift your spirits when you're grieving. For one special doggy, that's his full-time job.

Buddy is an 18-month-old Golden Retriever. He works at the Winfield funeral home in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Golden Retrievers are often chosen as disability and guide dogs because of their gentle and loyal nature. Buddy definitely qualifies as a gentle and loving doggy. He loves spending time with people and helps guests at the funeral home feel safe when they're sad.

Tommy Winfield owns the funeral home. He brought Buddy to work because he knew Buddy could lift people's spirits. Golden Retrievers are friendly, kind, and confident. Buddy is good at being loving and supportive of sad people at the home.

One time an Iraqi War Veteran approached Buddy. Buddy who senses when people need some love immediately came over to lean on the veteran and show him affection. But Buddy also knows when there might be people who don't want a doggy friend at the moment.

Buddy doesn't judge anyone who might need a little care in their tough moments. If you come and say hi to Buddy, he'll come and say hi to you. Having a therapy pet at a funeral home is a wonderful idea. It’s always nice to be comforted.
