Bruce Willis’s Wife Emma Heming Saved Him After He Spent Decade ‘In A Dark Place’

When it comes to top-notch actors in Hollywood, Bruce Willis is a name that many people would put on that list. The actor is most famous for his roles in action films, but he has shown to have quite the diverse set of talents, appearing in films and television shows in a variety of genres. On top of that, Willis is also adored for his amazing qualities as a husband and father.

Willis was born on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. He grew up with a German mother and an American father, who was stationed in the United States military at the time of his birth. In 1957, the family moved to the United States and raised Willis in Penns Grove, New Jersey.

In his teens, Willis discovered his passion for acting and began participating in his high school’s dramatic arts program. He later moved to New York City and appeared in a few off-Broadway plays before finally finding his footing in the world of television and film.

He had his breakthrough in 1985 with the TV series “Moonlighting,” and has since appeared in over 70 films. While he is recognized for his work as an action star, Willis has also shown that his talents span a variety of genres. Some of his most loved films include “Pulp Fiction,” “The Sixth Sense” and “Die Hard.”

But while Willis is loved by many as an actor, he is also loved by his wife, Emma Heming. The two have a beautiful relationship, having tied the knot back in 2009, and have continued to grow their family and share their love with the world.

Willis is no stranger to having his personal life in the spotlight. He was famously married to actress Demi Moore from 1987 to 2000 and had three children together: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah. Despite their split, Willis and Moore remained friends and are still close to this day.

Afterward, Willis was in another relationship with someone that he once planned to marry. He got engaged to Brooke Burns in 2004, but after 10 months together, the couple decided to call it quits.

For Willis, single life was difficult. Speaking to W magazine in 2009, the actor revealed he was in a “dark place.”

“I spent the last 10 years single and, for the most part, unhappy. In a dark place,” he said at the time. “I never thought that being with someone else was the answer. I would say, 'I'm alone, but I'm not lonely.'”

He added, "But I was just kidding myself. Then I started hanging around Emma, and on a day-to-day basis my life became much happier."

Fortunately, Willis didn’t give up on love, and he finally found his way to Heming, the woman he now calls his wife. Heming is a model and an actress who was first discovered when she was just 16 years old. She has appeared in several advertisements around the world for brands such as Escada, Garnier and Redken. Heming has also walked several fashion shows for designers such as Christian Dior, Chanel and Valentino. According to Willis, it only took one date for the two to fall madly in love with each other.

“We went on one date, on the Friday before Emma was getting ready to move back to New York, and then we fell mad crazy in love,” he revealed.

“When you think about where are you going to find that big love of your life, you seldom think it’s someone you already know. You think it’s someone you’re yet to meet.” Willis and Heming tied the knot in 2009. Since then, Willis and Heming have built a beautiful family together. They welcomed their first daughter, Mabel, in April 2012, and their second daughter, Evelyn, in May 2014.

According to Hollywood Life, Mabel enjoys stargazing through telescopes with Willis and spending time with her younger sister and older step-siblings. Evelyn is interested in sewing, ice skating and exploring the great outdoors.

Always the gentleman, Willis says he’s grateful to be surrounded by all the wonderful women in his life. “I worship women and I always felt safer when I am around them,” the actor said in honor of Women’s day. Almost thirteen years later, Hemming and Willis are still going strong.

In fact, in 2019, for their 10 year anniversary, the couple decided to say “I do” again in front of their family — including Willis’ ex, Demi Moore.

“She welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours,” Heming told Us magazine of Moore being there.

“Again, I have so much respect for her," she added. "I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there. She was at our first wedding. I loved having her there again. I wouldn’t do it without her.”

Bruce Willis is definitely proof that when it comes to finding ‘the one,’ age is nothing but a number, having met Heming at the age of 54.

"I don’t want to be away from Emma at all," the doting husband told Closer in 2017. "It’s the most singular relationship I’ve ever had in my life." 

Heming is also a stepmother to Willi’s three daughters from his marriage with Moore. The big blended family get along well and even regularly take photos together for social media.

According to PEOPLE, Moore, Willis, Heming and their kids quarantined together in Idaho earlier in the pandemic, something that meant a lot to Rumer. “I think it was just amazing to be together and have so much time, even though we all live in California and live relatively close to each other,” she explained. According to Elle Decor, Willis and Heming live together in a Craftsman-style home in Bedford Hills, New York, where they tend to their vegetable garden and spend time with each other and their kids. 

In 2021, Heming celebrated the couple’s 12th anniversary by uploading an adorable picture of them onto Instagram. In the caption she wrote:

“We’ve had our fair share of floating-on-air ups and disheartening downs. But he is my person. There’s no one I would want to go through this crazy thing called marriage with than with him. He’s my family, he’s given me the family (and more) I dreamed of and I love him to my core.”

The loving couple continues to be strong even today.
