Brooke Shields’ Daughter Wears Her 1998 Golden Globes Gown To Prom

Brooke Shields is famous for being one of Hollywood's most beautiful women. From the late 1970s when she rose to popularity while still a teenager to her sitcom-starring roles in television in the '90s, Shields has remained absolutely gorgeous even today at age 56.

Still acting, albeit less frequently, Shields settled down and started a family with her husband Chris Henchy in 2001, and together the couple has two daughters. Imagine your mom being Brooke Shields?! Well, Shields' daughter Rowan did one better than that. When it came time for her prom, she must have thought, considering her mom is Brooke Shields then she's surely entitled to raid her wardrobe. After all, there must be some designer gowns just waiting to be brought out again.

Well, Rowan was in luck. Shields had kept an absolutely stunning gown that she wore to the Golden Globes in 1998 when she was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for "Suddenly Susan." Although she didn't take home the award that night, Shields looked like a million dollars in her red satin dress.

Now, it was time for her to pass on the look to one of her daughters. Shields posted a sweet photo to her Instagram with her standing beside her daughter in the gown and they both looked gorgeous. Not only was it a special moment to see her daughter go to prom but she got to witness her daughter taking after her in such a literal way. Rowan even posed in one photo in the same manner that Shields did back in 1998!

Sharing the special moment to her over 1.2 million Instagram followers, Brooke Shields proudly posted photos of her stunning daughter Rowan donning her own red satin dress from the 1998 Golden Globes. She captioned her post:

“I thought it was a special night when I was nominated for a Golden Globe and wore this dress in 1998, but nothing could have prepared me to see my daughter wearing it to her prom ❤️ proud mama!”

The first photo shows Shields, dressed in a crisp all-white outfit with a matching Chanel handbag, standing beside her daughter. Rowan is wearing the gorgeous bright red satin gown along with a black handbag and white floral wrist corsage. They're embracing closely and it's clear from the photo just how much love Shields has for her daughter.

In the second picture, Rowan is posing with her hands on her hips, looking absolutely stunning in the gown. The third photo shows Shields in the ensemble in 1998, and she's doing the exact same pose as her daughter! By photographing Rowan in the same pose as her, the similarities and differences between mother and daughter become even clearer. For starters, it's obvious that Rowan is her mother's daughter, what with her gorgeous face and thick, face-framing eyebrows. But where Shields has darker hair and features, Rowan has beautiful strawberry blonde hair, which gives her a completely different look in the gown.

There's no comparing the two as each offers something different in how they've styled the gown — Shields' matching pashmina and red lipstick and nail polish are very fitting of the late '90s, while Rowan's carefree beach hair and minimal makeup is a major Gen Z trend right now.

The gorgeous ode to her daughter earned Shields a lot of comments from famous friends. Model Helena Christensen wrote, "Congratulations to your beautiful funny smart girl ❤️👏❤️." Actress and writer Ali Wentworth, whose daughter also recently went to prom, commented, "You both are 🔥❤️." Meanwhile, "Will & Grace" actress Debra Messing even remembered Shields in the dress from 1998:

"OH MY GOD that is so SPECIAL!!!!! I remember you in that gown that night! And now your beautiful daughter gets to make new memories with it. ❤️"

Alongside Rowan, Shields is also a mom to Grier, 15, and with her background as a world-famous model and actress, naturally, the topic of whether her daughters will follow in her footsteps has come up in interviews before. But while Shields got her start incredibly young in the industry, she's not necessarily pushing her daughters to do the same. In a 2017 interview with The New York Post, Shields revealed:

"The younger one has sort of been hinting around, but you know what, I won't be the one pushing them into it. I think they need to really have as much of a conventional upbringing as you can in New York City, with kids their own age, and not be thrown into something with all the pressure."

It's not uncommon for celebrity parents to allow their children to follow in their footsteps from an early age, but Shields is obviously more interested in her daughters having a regular upbringing before they potentially pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
