Britney Spears Is ‘New Auntie’ To Lance Bass ‘Absolutely Gorgeous’ Twins After Reveal That They're Related

After nearly 14 years of living under a restrictive conservatorship that controlled her life and fortune, Britney Spears is finally free. The pop star is known for such hits as "Stronger," "Oops I Did It Again," and "Toxic." She now has control over her own finances and career.

The #FreeBritney movement has been circulating for years on various social media platforms, with fans urging anyone close to the pop star to help her with the legal issues surrounding her personal life and career. 

The movement reached a new wave of supporters after the 2021 documentary "Framing Britney Spears" was released. The film depicted how much Spears has been struggling to get legal control over her own life, as her father was her conservator, meaning that he had legal control over the majority of her assets and life decisions, including having another child.

As the #FreeBritney movement gained mainstream popularity in 2021, Spears saw an outpouring of support from stars like Dolly Parton and Madonna — not to mention her fans online. 

With Spears now out of the conservatorship, the pop star has been enjoying the liberty she was deprived of for many years. After a star-studded wedding with Iranian-American model Sam Asghari, Spears has been reconnecting with her friends in the industry. 

Among those was Bass, who welcomed surrogate twins in 2021. In a special moment on Jul. 25, 2023, the twins finally met their Auntie Spears. Keep on reading to learn more about Bass and Spears' relationship and the adorable meeting they had together.  

In a 2021 interview on "Heather Dubrow's World" podcast, Bass, the singer known for his role in the boy band NSYNC, claimed that Spears' conservatorship prevented him from associating with the pop star. In the past, Bass was outspoken in his criticism of the conservatorship, making posts on his Facebook page and speaking to media outlets worldwide. Both Bass and Spears were prominent pop stars in the 1990s and early 2000s. The two acts even toured together and have been dear friends since. 

"I haven't spoken to her for years. We've been kept away from each other for quite a while," Bass said at the time. "I don't know exactly what she needs but I do know that she, to me — (from) what I see — is sane enough to pick her own people."

On Nov. 12, 2021, a judge announced the final verdict in Spears's case. "As of today, the conservatorship of the person and estate of Britney Jean Spears is hereby terminated," Judge Brenda Penny said, according to the Associated Press.

Unbeknownst to many, Bass and Spears were actually related. In an episode of "Ancestry's 2 Lies & A Leaf" series, it was revealed that they were distant relatives – sixth cousins once removed – to be exact. 

"That is so crazy though, 'cause, I mean, I feel like she's my little sister, and this whole time she's been my little cousin. And it makes sense because we were born an hour from each other. This is so cool," he said. "For some reason, I always felt like we looked like family, even when we were kids. I mean, this means so much to me. She is like family to me, so the fact that we are blood-related is amazing."

The blood relation between the two pop stars now made more sense as Spears announced that she is "the new auntie" of Bass' twins!

Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, welcomed the twins, Violet Betty and Alexander James, in October 2021 via a surrogate. Notably, Bass privately came out to Spears years before announcing to the world his true sexuality. Bass and Spears had that moment moments before the latter walked down the aisle on her past marriage to Jason Alexander. 

In May 2022, Bass spoke to Page Six and revealed that even though Spears was liberated from her conservatorship, she still had a "wall around her" at the time. But more than a year later, that "wall" seemed to be broken already. 

"I'm a new auntie for Lance's babies!!! They are absolutely gorgeous babies!!!" Spears captioned the post. 

Spears seemed to be holding each of the twins in each photo while Bass held the other. Her husband, Asghari, was also beside her in both photos. 

The joyous reconnection between the two marks a milestone in Spears and Bass' friendship. As mentioned, Bass has been very outspoken about his dear friend's struggle during the conservatorship. 

On the same note, People Magazine revealed that Spears will be releasing her highly-awaited memoir, "The Woman in Me," on Oct. 24, 2023. 

"For the first time her incredible journey (and) strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history," a press release from Gallery Books said. Spear's memoir "illuminates the enduring power of music and love — and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms."
