British Superstar Robbie Williams Celebrates His Birthday - A Look At The Star's Career

February 13 is the day Great Britain welcomed one of its most well-known international talents: Robbie Williams. The star can look back on a very successful career spanning the globe, with several mentionable highlights and ups and downs. His achievements include a record number of 18 Brit Awards and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His birthday is the perfect occasion to look back on his career.

Williams' career started back in 1990 when he joined Take That at the age of sixteen as its youngest member. He went to audition after his mother, having read an ad, suggested he should go for it. While Take That became an international sensation, conflict among the group and alcohol and cocaine problems caused Williams to leave the group in 1995.

His solo career didn’t take off right away. In fact, due to the contract he had signed while part of Take That, he was actually forbidden from starting out on his own until the band officially dissolved. After a range of legal battles, Williams could finally start his solo career in 1996.

After the split and the start of his solo career, it quickly became obvious that the young star was a rising sensation. His decision to include hip-hop and rap elements proved to be just what people wanted. He later branched out even further, including dance, electro and swing influences as well as many cues from other musical styles. The singer writes most of his songs himself.

Williams’ charitable work include organizing charity soccer matches for UNICEF UK, becoming the patron of the Donna Luise Trust, a charity set up to offer care for terminally ill children, and starting his own charity: Give It Sum, an organisation focused on revitalizing Williams’ English hometown Stoke-on-Trent.

And of course, none of his fans can forget 2010, the year during which he reconciled with Take That. Their first album after Williams return became the second fastest selling album in UK history. Despite his return, however, Williams still focuses on his own career and only sporadically joins Take That on stage.
