Bob Weighton from Hampshire, UK, is now thought to be the oldest living person at 111 years old following the death of the previous titleholder.

Chitetsu Watanabe, the Japanese national who was named the world’s oldest living person by Guinness World Records just this month, died on Sunday at the age of 112 – just 11 days before his 113th birthday.

Bob Weighton said he doesn’t consider the title cause for celebration.

“Well, I don’t really feel satisfied, because it means someone else has died. I just accept it as a fact, it’s not something I ever intended, wanted or worked for, but it’s just one of those facts of life,” he told the Guardian

“You might find it amazing, but it’s just one of those things.”

Weighton an engineer and teacher in his time and despite his age, still lives in his own flat.

He was born on March 29, 1908 in Hull, UK and was both Britain and England’s oldest person following the death of Scottish national Alfred Smith last year. The two hold the same birthday.

Last year, Weighton spoke to the Daily Mail about being the oldest man in England.

“Wee I’ve never been someone who said, you know, I’m going to climb Everest or sail around the world, or do something,” he said. “I just take life as it comes along.”

His title of oldest living person, however, is yet to have been officially confirmed by Guinness World Records. According to the BBC, a spokesperson for Guinness said the title is still under investigation following the death of Chitetsu Watanabe.

"Further information will follow soon upon confirmation of the next record-holder," the spokesperson said.
